Thats a pretty solid resume for 17 pro fights. Pirog fought Tatevosyan after 3 pro fights, Tatevosyan had 30 and was Russian MW Champ. After Pirog beat him in his 4th pro fight Bute and Froch fought him the year after.

Could it be a great fight? For sure.

I get the feeling that Pirog may be a little too green for Martinez at this point in time, but maybe that's because I don't know too much about him.

I know that being put in too early against a beast who is on top of his game may have disastrous consequences that could affect your career.

Maybe he should fight Pavlik, Geale, or one of the Germans.

Martinez is 35 years old and has paid his dues. He should fight big money fights or at least known names, not up and comers with less than 20 fights. I am not a fan of Martinez at all but last night and the fight with Pavlik he proved he should be making big money. Not to mention he got KO of the year and should win FighterOTY.

Mayweather, Pacquiao, Williams trilogy, Cotto. Are all good names but especially the first two. Anything less than these four names, he'll just be taking steps backward.

He did destroy Jacobs but people talk about Pirog like he is going to be this amazing fighter. The dude is 30 and hasn't beaten anyone of substance besides a hot shot prospect. If he is the real deal it is time to prove it against world class fighters. I honestly don't think that is too much to ask from a fighter that a lot of people think is this great talent. If not now, when? Like I said the dude is already 30 years old.

And, if Pirog is too green, then who should he fight? Most of the preferred opponents suggested so far have been JMW's.

Pirog at this point in his career could give Martinez stiff competition but nothing much else. Martinez deserves not just a good fight but also a good payday. That's what boxing is all about. He should start looking towards Pacquiao's direction and call him out. I don't think Mayweather would dare face Martinez. If Floyd Sr. feared for his son's life against Pacquiao, with Martinez his fear would be for Floyd's life and soul. That's for sure.

Martinez shouldn't fight Pirog, he should do some big money fights now, that would be the clever thing to do. Let Pirog clean out the MW division, let him beat Sturm, Sylvester and Golovkin. Pirog is really skilled, he can beat all these guys. He needs to get another belt to make the fight against Martinez big enough. A big fight would result in a bigger payday for both fighters, I am quite sure Pirog wouldn't mind too... The fight is great, but do not make it now...

Where will this fight be if it happens? Neither of them are draws in america and idk if HBO will even air the fight. Maybe it would make more sense in Russia or Argentina.
