Much respect to Mr.Martinez. After that knockout against an ACTUAL fighter who isn't washed up or over the hill. He deserves it.

yeah we also should learn that losing 2lbs for a catchweight fight where you can hydrate in 24hrs, like the pac-cotto fight, really wont affect you.

      thanks

And again, rehydrating doesn't compensate for the hard work that is put into making weight. If you want to think otherwise...go ahead, PEACE.

THIS IS WHY ALL MY PINOY BROTHERS HATE SERGIO SO MUCH:

"It's ridiculous," said Martinez, who did not ask for a catchweight before dethroning Pavlik at Boardwalk Hall last April. "I had to accept it for this one or otherwise there wouldn't have been a fight. But I don't believe in it.

"Personally, I'd be ashamed to ask for a catchweight. I would never do it. If you want to challenge someone for their title, be a man and fight at the right weight."

While neither Martinez nor Williams is fond of the other, there was more acrimony than usual in the lead-up to this one because Williams insisted on a catch weight of 158 pounds -- two under the middleweight limit -- since he'd been training to fight at 147 pounds. Martinez countered by saying he'd be "ashamed" to ask for a catch weight if he was challenging for a world title.

However, Martinez, who barely made the WBC’s mandatory 30-day weigh-in limit by tipped the scales at 176 pounds four weeks ago, is not happy about the concession.

“I think, as a man and a fighter, he should be ashamed to ask to fight for a world title at a catch weight,” Martinez said through Lewkowicz at the final press conference on Wednesday. “I would never do that. I would allow the champion to weigh in at the division limit.”
Manny was going up in weight so the fight can be made. i dont see anything wrong with that.

i know the reason why Sergio doesnt like catchweight. because Manny set a high standard fighting bigger guys. now if you want to prove you are truly great he has to go up weight divisions and fighting bigger guys. or he has to go down and fight Manny or Floyd let say in 152 lbs. He was asking Floyd to fight in Sergio's comfort zone and you think thats fair? GTFO! Sergio is scared of a competition.

                so you FAILED again TS.

so really what you're saying is we as fans cannot quantify this hard work that was put into making weight. that we just have to go by what the fighter and his camp says right? thanks again!

I'm not mad at him, i'm actually happy for him for KTFO of P.Will. In regards to catch weights, it's been around before i was born, and i'm much older than Manny So as far as i'm concern, if anybody is hatin on Manny about catch weights, then they should hate on other past ATG fighter that have done them, not to mention Floyd himself that fought JMM and made JMM go up two, count them two weight classes over night. From LW to WW.
