Is the USA losing it's dominance in the sport of boxing?

It seems that the USA has been on the decline in the sport of boxing.

It's not only in the heavyweight division, so the LAME excuse of "all the big men are going into basketball and football" does not work here.

Two top American fighters have recently lost, one to a Canadian (Pascal) and one to an Argentian (Martinez). The young up-and-coming one are falling too: Jacobs was KOed by Oirog, and Alexander lost to Kotelnik (but was given the win by corrupt judges).

Only Floyd Mayweather remains, but he's been ducking the top fighters from other countries like Manny Pacquiao and so he's probably overrated.

Absolutely. America has had it's time at the top but I think it's clear they hanging by a thread after last night. I have a feeling another American could be getting their ass handed to them soon too, quite possibly Ward.

How was "THE USA" ever dominant? Boxing is an individual sport (one of the reasons I love it) and it's composed of individiuals, not nation states.

Has it lost its dominance, no. Has it lost depth and the rest of the world caught up, yes. America still has the most champions(or almost always does) and if you were to rank the top 100 fighters or so America would be represented more than any other nation. I would classify that as being pretty dominant.

7 to 1, what a god damn joke. What country produces better talent than America? Get real.

Yes. We Latinos are dominating the smaller weight classes, along with the Pinoys. Higher weight classes are being swarmed by quality Euros.

But never think this will be forever. A country that produced Sugar Ray Leonard can't be on the downside forever.

Who are you comparing America too. South America, Argentina, Europe, Britain, or the rest of the world.

I dont get it. Why dont you compare country to country instead of country- regions/continents. Just goes to show how badly America dominted in the past....

So, the guy loses to one of the best fighters and now he is a bum? I don't understand your logic. All I know is if you list the best fighters in the world, America would have more on that list than any other country in the world. How is that losing your dominance?
