Is it me or does anyone else really really ****in hate varges. I think he is one of the most overrated guys in a while. He comes across as the type that always has some excuse for everything. Not to mention the fact the the little roided bastard got his ass smashed by in his own words, an "Overrated boxer and a white boy in need of a bath" in de la hoya. He talked all that **** and then got sat.
Yes, i do feel that he is better then your average run of the mill fighter, but, if he were white or black he would be just another boxer. Its the loyalty of the hispanic culture, the p****nsity to always be loyal to a fighter who represents their people, their culture, their heritage. That is the reason for his marketabilty and the fan follwing. And when i say this, i am not in anyway intending to disrespect hispanics, their loyalty is a good thing actually. If white and black fans were as loyal as hispanics, boxing would be the biggest sport on earth.
But since varges is what? Hispanic. He will always be privy to that type of loyalty. Hell hispanics root for Arturo Gatti and hes italian, he is brown though, i'll give you that. But i bet if he were a shade lighter or a shade darker he would be on the FSN or FNF cards and not on pay per view.
And yes, before you say it, i understand that money talks, "So why should they do a pay per view or a HBO that wont sell as much?" Right. Here's why. If they would show the world the REAL talent out there and not the guy with the most money making ability, maybe, just maybe, we could slowly ween boxing back into its former glory. For years fighters that are truly skilled pugilists have been kept from the world. Forced to fight in small venues for **** pay. And guys like Varges, who have very few natural skills but butt loads of fans and no ****in thought of defense are put on TV, make millions, and we are told that this is the best their is.
I feel that Varges is the exact type of thing that is wrong with boxing, greatness is now measured in how much people are willing to spend to see you, not on who is better then the rest. Their are people on this very webpage that have used marketabilty as a viable trait in determining who is better. Last time i checked marketabilty gets KTFO buy skill damn near everytime (DLH v Varges).
My biggest thing about Varges is that after all the huffin and puffin he does out of the ring, all the "Im a real man", "Im a real mexican." ****. As soon as he loses he has excuses for everyone and everything. If he was a real man he would would take his lumps and roll with it. You know the old adage. "You win some, you lose some." He should study it, learn it, live it.
So in the end i guess i dont really hate Varges I just hate what he ****ing stands for. The type who ride the the coattails of former greats. You know the type. Hes the guy that comes into your work with no real stand out quality, but he gets that high paying job that you were supposed to have because he knows the manager. Even though you got real skill he has the connections.
Its all about who you know, and who knows you, not what you now, or who nows best.
AND NOW YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL!
