Where do i start?
Dissapointed.But not all completely.
Guillermo Rigondeaux
First off,bad match up but good experience. This was a fight of two counter punchers.
Does Guillermo rigondeaux want to make a statement for himself or does he still think he's in the amatuers? I wasnt impressed by his skills other then good speed and some decent counters. What i did noticed is in the mid rounds he did get tagged good by cordoba then started to retreat and not side shuffle like he was doing all night. What happens when he faces a fighter who goes for the ko? A guy who's agrresive and can cut the ring to get him? Stick, stick and move isnt going to do much for him.Matter of fact,i think he lost points during the fight for doing the hobbling shuffle. My take as of now,he's chasing Wilfredo vazquez Jr for a title shot. But i beleive vazquez being the aggresor, will chase him and create it into a brawl, thus catching him.My thoughts could change with better efforts from rigo, his body and facial language dont really seem appealing to make it a brawl fight.World championship status? Not any time soon.
Ricardo Cordoba
A B- counter.Wasnt throwing anything meaningful, didnt use his height to his advantage, and stalled almost on all of his punches.Yet this is the guy who beat caballero? The guy who cleared a 117-111 UD on scorecareds and knocked him down in the 10th round. This is the guy that beat the "fearful" peluche? Juanma, your starting to disrespect me.I beleive celestino is hype. But thats just my opinion.Aging to 34, i wouldnt be suprised if juanma gets discredited for beating an "old" caba (i can hear those on here already). But in terms the fight should happen sooner then later.
Mike Jones
First off,i had it a draw. The final round was the most critical to mike jones and he pulled through.Had he lost that round,he would of lost.Obiouvsly the judges had it a different way.I thought we were going to have problems with Gale vanHoy's card but that wasnt the case.
Mike jones you dissapointed me but never failed.Ive seen this local guy develop from the friday night solo boxeo fights. He was looking sharp in the begining but after the party of punches he threw it was a disaster.honestly i didnt think he was going to last all 12 rounds. It looked almost impossible witht he way he was gassed out. Now,styles make fights. This was a matchup of 2 brawlers.Grueling energy consuming and chin testing.I thought he would be ready for the likes of Andre berto, but not anymore. Then again andre berto isnt the rugged pressurer-like walkdown boxer, which in this case it would give mike jones a lil bit of time to recover in between the rounds.Jones has the reach and boxed well the final rounds. He's yet not ready for a title shot but if he wants a step closer to Berto why not go the Luis collazo route?
Just my thoughts.....
