Pacquiao's Next Opponent?

I'm not sure if you're trying to insult me by calling me a "casual fan", but I've been watching since the late 70s, early 80s following different fighters- if thats what a casual fan is, thanks. The casual fan will watch 24/7 and have hope for any fighter. You could do a 24/7 with Ricky Hatton, who is shot to hell and has been for a few years, and you would watch him train, and there are people who would buy into the hype. That's what 24/7 does. It fools people into thinking shot fighters are competitors.
We should be looking at past fights, not 24/7, because anybody can look good in training. Yeah he worked his ass off, but he's shot!
And I'm not using hindsight, check my threads from when it was first announced. I claimed he was shot, not a live fighter, and that Pac would beat him every round. I believed Pac would stop him late (which is should have been stopped as a TKO in the 10th), but everything else I said came true.
My uncle called and asked me if I was coming by for the fight and I told him "That fight is a joke. I'm going to go out with friends and I'll watch the encore of it later."
24/7 can make anybody look good, but it's solely used to hype a fight. Real boxing fans know better than to fall for that, but it seems 90% of this forum bought into it....
Anybody who believes Pac is "That much greater" for beating Margarito the way he did is delusional and is clueless because the fact is "Margarito is shot."
I knew Manny had this, Marg was just a guy while looking like crap the last few years still had a "tough" name attached to him. Manny did exactly what he should have done to a shot fighter, which is beat him up.
Sorry you missed a nice night of boxing on saturday.Comment

I know they believe that, and isn't it funny? There is plenty of competition out there, but he wants none of it. I can't believe that they look at beating Margarito and Clottey in decisions as a testament to greatness.
Williams, Martinez, Mosley, hell even Saul Alvarez is a great fighter who I believe has what it takes to do the job. Whether or not he is mentally ready for that is another story but he has the tools.
Pacquiao fans seem perfectly content watching their idol beat up shot has beens with no chance of winning! How can they enjoy these kinds of fights??? You have to step up the competition if you want to claim "greatness."
They want to believe that Floyd is "The only fight that matters" and then like to say "Floyd won't fight" but in reality, there are plenty of other LIVE OPPONENTS who will COME TO FIGHT and Manny will not fight them. Mosley came to the wild card gym twice and was turned down for being "too good."
How is that acceptable to Pacquiao fans? I personally do not believe Shane is shot. He's sharp, crisp, powerful and fast. His stamina is the only issue as Pacquiao blows anybody away in stamina, so Mosley will have about 6-8 rounds to finish a fight with Manny.
Why is it ok for fans to say "Oh well, Mosley is shot, Manny would kill him anyway." but then he goes and fights MARGARITO!? Why not fight Mosley if "it doesn't matter who he fights?" Why fight a guy that has no license, was banned, and you have to JUMP THROUGH HOOPS to get him a license, and most fans are DISGUSTED WITH Margarito and believe he DIDN'T DESERVE THE TITLE SHOT OR PAYDAY.
Why do Pacquiao fan's not ask these questions, and not only Pac fans, MOST boxing fans, yet every move Floyd makes is put under the scope??? Somebody please explain it, because I am not getting it.Comment

I was not cheap shotting you, and I made up for the circus show on Sunday Morning and it played out exactly how I knew it would. It's like watching a remake of a movie that I have seen over and over. Different person, but it starts, plays and ends the same way. There was nothing about that fight that was entertaining for me.I'm not sure if you're trying to insult me by calling me a "casual fan", but I've been watching since the late 70s, early 80s following different fighters- if thats what a casual fan is, thanks.

We just have to wait to see who recently got knocked out or is coming off a recent loss. That will be the person Manny will fight next. OH Yeah, I forgot they will also have to be weight drained in order to get the fight. Then it also must be for a paper vacated title.Last edited by shogun1123; 11-15-2010, 02:59 PM.Comment

Tough question, id like to see him fight Mayweather like everyone else. But for some reason iv got a feeling we will never see that fight.
I think there is slight chance he could face Martinez, if he was to win the rematch with Williams.
I cant really see a Cotto rematch, so maybe a fight with Berto or Mosely...if Mayweather cant be made ?
You know though, with Roach saying a fight with Marquez could be made if it was at 147, i think that could be a front-runner. I feel that fight should of been made a few years ago or not at all, but i think JMM wants the fight so bad he would be prepared to move up to 147, even if it was hurting his chances.Comment

I agree. Pacquiao's team has shown us over the last year that they have no interest in him fighting any top contender or any fighter who is at the top of their game.
They are now talking about Marquez at 147. Just when I thought I couldn't be more sick to my stomach about what's happening in boxing with Manny, Roach says something like this to the media. Of course Marquez will want the payday, and it's another easy fight for Manny, but why take it?
Why not fight guys like Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez, Shane Mosley? The fact is they are all very capable of beating him, so he will stick to picking a guy from the bum of the month club.
Marquez doesn't have it anymore. I guess the best fight we'll ever likely get to see is Manny/Cotto. I still believe Manny beats him, but Cotto is just slick enough to last deep into the fight and win some rounds, and he's tough enough to exchange with Manny should it come down to it.
That's probably the best fight we'll get to see, and that to me is very, very sad.
All these Pacquiao fans are not helping Pacquiao's legacy at all. Step up and let him know you are not impressed with his choice of opponent, write to guys like Dan Rafael. Get it out there that you want to see him fight GOOD FIGHTERS who are AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME, not shot fighters who can not compete!
I just keep hoping he will fight somebody good, and we have a guy like Shane saying he'd like a fight with Pacquiao, and what do we read from team Pac? "Roach want's Marquez at 147."
It's a downright slap to the face of all boxing fans. Give us what we want, we're the one's paying for it.Pac wants to fight at jr mdw does he not? So it's ok to claim to be a Jr MDW champ and fight only bums? He should be held to the same standard as any other guy in the weight class. That excuse ran dry over a year ago man, nobody is even using it anymore.
And that's fine, fight the best guys at 147 or fight Jr mdw's like Pwill and Sergio at 150, I'd be happy with that and I'm sure they'd make the weight.
They are live opponents and will come to FIGHT, unlike Margarito and Clottey who are not live opponents and can not perform at the level necessary to be competitive.
I'm tired of the excuses "Pacquiao can fight bums because he's small."
If thats the case then stay at welterweight but damn it, fight the best! Stick to one division and clean it up, unify the title, and DEFEND IT!!
Nobody cares about a guy who steps up in weight, fights a bum for a vacant title, and wins! Even Kellerman and Lampley agreed that was used "As hype for the fight, but is not a relevant issue." because they know it's phony bull****.
Just fight a live opponent who can fight and I will give him all the respect he deserves, but as long as he continues to fight shot fighters I will give him the same amount of respect I'd give anybody else for beating a shot fighter. The casual fan will watch 24/7 and have hope for any fighter. You could do a 24/7 with Ricky Hatton, who is shot to hell and has been for a few years, and you would watch him train, and there are people who would buy into the hype. That's what 24/7 does.
