    From just this summer, June:

At middleweight, Martinez (45-2-2, 24 KOs) also holds the Ring magazine title as well as the lineal championship. If a major fight presents itself, promoter Lou DiBella said Martinez would consider dropping down to defend his title at a catch weight between 155 and 160 pounds.

"By keeping the middleweight title, he would also have an ability to drop down to fight a big fight at a catch weight," DiBella said. "He bulked up for Pavlik and he knows his body. He said he would have a problem going all the way down to 154 and there is no mega fight for him in that weight class. If there is an economic reason to go down as low as 155, he'd probably do it, but he's a middleweight now."

So Dibella says Sergio would have no problem making a 155 catchweight for a megafight. What does the man himself have to say about this?

Throughout the years, Manny Pacquiao has continuously proven that he’s willing to face the biggest and toughest challenges available, and yet, Martinez seems to believe that Floyd Mayweather would be more eager to face him. “Floyd’s the pound-for-pound king and he makes the rules. It would be an honor to fight the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. We’d fight him for the junior middleweight title or the middleweight title,” Martinez continued in an interview with FightHype’s own Mike Juhas. “It would be an honor to fight him at any weight he desires between 154 and 160 pounds, for either title, as long as it’s at a minimum of 154 pounds.”

Sergio made that offer to Manny and Floyd, then Angulo (who ******ly turned it down along w/ a career high payday) to fight at 155.

And since we know Paul is willing to fight at 147 anyway, I don't want to hear any b*tching about catchweights and 'draining' if Manny takes on the winner of this fight next, especially since both guys are already fighting for the lineal MW belt at 157 next week...

10 years ago, and even before dela Hoya, you all said this was impossible, that MP will get killed. Who`s laughing now? He even fought Clottey at 147, Clottey fight night at 160.

This is extraordinary, no other boxer in the next century will be able to match this, catchweight or not, steroid or not.

I like the way you present your arguments. I suggest that you hold on to your research because I have a feeling that you will have to present your argument again in the near future.

Not too long ago I asked Pacquiao himself about the subject. “No, no! Too big! I want to go back down!” he told me, laughing. Even he seemed amused at the depth of his own legacy, apparently finding it absurd to the point of laughter at my mere suggestion of shooting for a title in additional weight class beyond this weekend. So is the door officially closed on the chance of seeing Pacquiao establish himself as the baddest man on the planet at 160? I went to Freddie.

“Of course it’s a possibility,” he said. When pressed on Manny’s apparent refusal to ever pursue a middleweight strap: “Yeah but he’s said that before. He said that before we went to welterweight too and look how that turned out.”

I asked Freddie if he preferred Pacquiao fight Sergio Martinez instead of Paul Williams because of the possible seven inches in height that his fighter would be giving up. “No. They’re both very talented fighters. Either one of them could present problems.”

The next two weekends could set up a super fight for May

Haha, don't worry, I'll be ready when the usual suspects come along with their b.s.

Exactly, Cotto fans always want him in the worst possible fights for him. It's like they want him dead...he could have been beat with plaster and a guy on steroids and now they want him to fight a guy with a high output that is way bigger than him. Do they think since he was getting popped by a one legged man repeatedly that he has somehow become a defensive wizard all of the sudden? Cotto also has that Zab Judah/Mike Tyson mentality, if he cannot hurt his man it eats his confidence and makes him gas way faster, if he can hurt the man and get some respect his confidence and stamina get a boost and he fights great, I don't think he can hurt Williams with one punch, nor do I think Manny or Floyd can either. Flat out bad fight for Cotto, he needs work and a semi tune up fight before anything serious can be even discussed. IMO we should be seeing Cotto Vs Mosley II or Cotto Vs Margarito II now anyway. Those match up make sense and could get Cotto back into a legitimate position to really fight at a peak level. I've become a fan of Cotto over the years after hating him, but the truth is he hasn't looked good in a very long time to justify his fans making absurd requests of him. Make no mistake he could get back to a point where he could do something like that if he was firing on all cylinders and 100% focused, but now is not that time IMO.

So Williams-Martinez II is being fought for a paper championship and doesn't count because it's at a 157 or 158 CW, not the 160 MW limit.

                  Amirite?
No, two non-contenders fighting for a vacant title makes it illigitimate.

I don't like the idea of Pac getting his next title at middleweight, at 154 lbs, but if Martinez wants to go that way then so be it.

They are not going to 160. I repeat, they are not going to 160.
