Manny Pacquiao: First ASIAN Sports Star to BREAK the US market

    By Gareth A Davies 11:43PM GMT 09 Nov 2010
Pacquiao, elected to Congress in The Philippines earlier this year, faces Antonio Margarito at light-middleweight at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on Saturday night. Seventy thousand tickets have been sold. Tens of millions will watch his fight around the world. Pacquiao enjoys a level of idolatry bordering obsession at home, yet in the US, he represents the first Asian sports star to cross into the mainstream in the United States.

I have my doubts about 70,000 tickets sold. Just two weeks ago a third party said 27,000 tickets were sold. If they do get 70,000 people that would be awesome but I'm think it will be closer to 50,000. Yeah, I know Clottey/Pac did that but it was the first time boxing was at the stadium so people went for that. Now that people have gone for the stadium effect now it's people that want to go to actually see boxing. I would be very surprised if they had 70,000 people in the house.

Thanks for the link, but where did Gareth A Davies get that number from? I want a more credible source.

That source was from telegraph_co_uk, a very respected website from England. I would believe that site more than you, sori.

I'm just giving you my opinion that I don't believe that number. It doesn't make sense in two weeks(I actually think it is less than that), that a third party came in and said 27,000 tickets were sold and then it shoots up 40,000 all of sudden. Good for them if they were able to do that but I simply don't buy it. I'd like to see a few more sources report that before I expect 70-75,000 in the house.

For the last ****ing time, Pac/Clottey did not do 50K!!!!!!! Even reporters are still saying this, after it has been corrected and found to be false.

Pac/Clottey sold 36K ticket and gave away five thousand. They had 41,000 people there. As it has been told time and time again, the reports of 50K were completely untrue and were made to try and make it look more of a success by Arum etc.

It did 36,000 tickets and gave away another 5000.

If they did that much then it's much more likely that they are around 27,000 at the moment and it will probably jump up to a realistic number of around 40,000.

Even Espn said it was that.
