why do people automatically think fighters from old would beat modern day fighters?

I agree there is a tendancy toward this. I think the main problem with today's fighters is that they take too long to make the right fights happen, and sometimes they never come off at all, and they can get away with it because a lot of fighters can still make a lot of money fighting mediocre opposition. Back in those days you had to fight the best, and beat the absolute best to become a titlist, and make a good living. Also fighters took on more challenges in shorter spaces of time so they would pick up loses, and I feel if the fighters of today were more active they would also not have long undefeated streaks and have undefeated records unless they were truly outstanding like ray robinson. But I do believe you have to look at cases individually, ie. the heavyweight division is undoubtedly poor in comparison to 50's 60's 70's. So its hard to measure the klitscko's. But I think manny pac and floyd mayweather are as good a fighters as any that have existed. Floyd mayweather is without a doubt in my mind the most perfect technical fighter ever and one of the best athletes, does that make him the best? No not necessarily. Manny pac is an astounding athlete also, and as devestating combination of power, speed, workrate, and aggression as there has been, probably coming short only of ray robinson of the fighters I have seen.

I do not understand this whole boxing development. It is still the same sport with the same thing. Except for HW. Boxers of today are not bigger or stronger then the boxers from the old school.

Yes it works on other sports like football, basketball, Track and field. But, I don't think there is such a big gap in boxing. But, there are weight-classes and fighters of today are not bigger nor stronger. The exception is HW though, they're bigger and stronger now. But, all the other weight-classes are the same just today fighters have less skill TBH.

I just don't get the whole boxing development.

Fighters back then fought 15 tough rounds. They literally trained in blood and sweat cause in order to make money they had to win. they didnt have the advance in technology as we do or the gy equipments or even the medicines we have today. its like there were a tough sculpted rock compared to the "just rocks" of fighters today. why you think the heavyweight division is **** nowadays? people are spoiled into easier things now to make money.

i see what you mean, but my point is the sport has naturally developed as time has gone on, therefore the fighters have become more efficient at what they do. just because a fighter has had to train using only the most basic of equiptment, and fought in 15 round fights, often once a month even dosent mean that he automatically beats the modern day fighters, yes the fighters of the present day ARE spoiled, but thats not my point, the point is its just common sense, over time, sportsmen in general improve, its no different in boxing. its like saying the england football team which won the world cup in 1966 would beat the current engalnd team, theres not a chane, theyd get played off the park. nostalgia clouds peoples opinions

Technology clouds peoples minds. There is a grit and work ethic that was common back generations ago that only a very small handful have now. Times have made us soft and sports like boxing aren't advanced as much by technology as others.

Sure there's some advancement in skill and athletes tend to be better off physically (debatable IMO) but modern fighters take a back seat when it comes to toughness and fighting experience.

"some" advancement in skill?? id have to dissagree with that, i think the level of skill these days is far superior to the old days, cant argue at all about the work ethic issue though, they were tough as nails back in the days of black and white tv. fighters these days are smarter becuase theyve LEARNED from watching the mistakes made by the oldies. i say you take an average fighter from now and an average fighter from say the 50's and put them in the ring, the fighter from present day will will say 8 out of 10 times

It really isn't. The skill level of today fighter is not far superior at all. Matter of fact is seems that the skill level is getting worse from what like 10 years.

And, for the 2nd bold that all depends on the intangibles of said fighter and what their styles are.
