I've ALWAYS been led to believe...

that George Foreman was completely trouncing Ali in 1974, with Ali against the ropes taking horrific abuse until Foreman completely gassed out and Ali made a dramatic comeback and won the fight...however I have our local paper from the day after that fight and I was looking at it last night, reading the old recaps of the fight and they had a round-by-round recap by the Associated Press...did you know the AP had Ali up five rounds to two to that point??????

I always thought this myself, until i actually saw the fight itself. I thought, in all honesty, that Ali fought very well of the ropes. I expected to see Ali just getting pounded for most of the fight but he held his own well. I wouldn't have said he was winning, but he wasn't slaughtered as i was always led to believe myself.

EXACTLY...I grew up believing it was brutality against Ali..now Im sure those Foreman punches were hurting...but Ali looked confident THE ENTIRE FIGHT...countered off the ropes beautifully in combination...

hmm, wasnt Foreman seen as a bad character of sorts back when the fight took place which could have possibly swayed media in favor of the benevolent Ali.

Its pretty clear from watching the fight that Foreman was being ineffective.

EXACTLY...I thought the same thing...then I watched the fight and now I read the AP score...Ali didnt just get lucky wearing GF out...Ali showed AMAZING confidence (remember, people thought he may get actually KILLED by GF), skills, sharp punching, accuracy, toughness, etc etc...

I think it's not really the media but the commentator on the part where Ali KO's Foreman. Ali did look like he was getting battered and it's that clip that is always shown.

Ali dominated Foreman. not in the early rounds but thru out the fight. he was walking thru Foreman's best punches.
