    How do judges score fights?

After watching the Donald Camarena/Jorge Alberto Padilla on Firday Nights Fights I am really wondering how judges score fights. I was not scoring the fight but when I do I score 1 point for a glancing blow or light jab, 2 points for a stiff jab, 3 points for a clean power shot, 4 points for a power shot that staggers, 5 points for a powershot that buckles the knees. Whoever has the most points at the end wins the round. If the points are within seven of one another I score the round even. I dont know where I came up with this system or why I did I just did. I Thought Camarena/Padilla fight ended with a hometown decision. Carmarena may have deserved the win but it was very close and it was a very tough fight to score. The judges had it one sided for Carmarena.

They watch the fight and score it round by round on a 10 point system. The fighter that wins the round would get 10, the fighter that loses would normally get 9. Unless a knockdown or point deduction. At the end they add the scores up for each to decide who wins. Here is an example of a scorecard...just for the hell of it...

I know the 10 point system what I am asking is that how do they judge what types of punches count and how well they count.

if a fighta dominated ta othat guy........landed mo meaningful shots and did mo damage.....he wins ta round 10 - 9

if ta fight is close......no one did damage that counts (boooooring round).......give ta guy that pushed ta action mo ta round 10-9

if sumone gets KD......he gets 10 -8 round.....10-7 2 kds 10-6.....3 KDs (Marquez vs Pacquiao)......... WHAT A ****IN PAID ARUM JUDGE. BaSTERD!

in rare occasion, you give 10-8 if sumbody gets seriously hurt, doesn't fight back, but dint get dropped (Cooto vs Corley)

            COMN MAN! Basic shyt! nyahahahaha.

who knows what judges are thinking? But I do have say that you get a whole different perspective of a fight while you're sitting at ring side. Rather than watching it on television.

Like I said I understand the 10 point system. What I am asking is that if both fighter land 20 punches one guy lands 15 clear scoreing shots and 1 staggering punch and 4 punches that barley land while the other guy lands 20 punches 8 clean shots 3 staggering shot, 1 shot that spends the guy around and take out his mouthpiece and 3 pitty pat jabs and 5 shots that barely land who gets the 10 who gets the 9? Is there a set way to judge the value of punches? Thats my question. I have been familiar with the Marcus of Queensbury rules for years but I have never really questioned how a fight is scored.

nah, the judges dont spend the round calculating who won, alot of times its more of a judgment call on who won the entire round, which is why you see so many close and disputed decisions. your system would work great, but currently alot of judging is up in the air.
this brings me back to sugar ray leonard and "stealing" round.
he lands clean shots and combinations and the beginning and end of the rounds, and often times gets the nod, even when he may not have deserved. showboating also comes into play. leonard was a great showboater, and oftentimes, made his opponents looks foolish, therefore many times the judges would award him the round. (this happened in the hagler fight, with leonard landing his signature punch, the bobo punch. this was one of many close rounds, and i bleive fillipo gave leonard the round, had he not, the fight would have been a draw)this is an example of a smart fighter taking advantage of a flawed system.

everyone touched on the 10 point system, and they all are generally correct. but the thing that got me about the fight last night was, Camarena was fetting tagged all night long. that guy has no business trying to fight like Roy Jones Jr. seriously, he doesn't have the natural reflexes or the skill. i was laughing, cause he was trying to be slick and was getting drilled. me personally i had it a draw. Camarena laid on the ropes, tried to look slick, got caught all night long and was walked down the whole fight. if he was in there with someone with more experience, not necessarily better, he would have been KO'D, easily. he doesn't posses the natural speed, power or reflexes to be fighting that style. i thought that he was just embarrassing himself in the ring. that **** was a joke.....
