No I don't agree. Don't get me wrong I like Marquez a lot and he has been a great fighter, but Pacquiao is on another level IMO. In terms of resume, accomplishments, excitement and just what they have done for the sport I would put Manny clearly ahead of Marquez. Both are great fighters though.

Skill-wise, I think its close, but Manny is better. Resume-wise, Pacquiao is leagues above Marquez.

i think that Lampley was gunning for skill wise, i mean in my opinion Marquez will also be remembered as one of the ATG's just like Pacquiao. but Pacquiao has done way more of course. I think that this is also partly because of nacho's bad negotiating skills for fights, or so i've heard, that has cost Marquez a lot of money and a lot of good fights.

If there was a rematch tomorrow at like 135-140, i think it'd still be a closely contested battle, probably won by pacquiao's conditioning and strength. it'd be a close fight judging off of Marquez's performance against Mayweather.

Could have been just as great. Marquez was a late bloomer and is now on his way down. I admire Marquez because of how much he has been able to accomplish with limited physical attributes. His great timing and great technique have driven him on. If he was 5 years younger and had more physical attributes he would be thrashing everyone at lightweight if he isn't doing that now...

This isn't a merit based argument, its a political one.

Marquez is clearly more skilled in every aspect, but because he has the style of a counterpuncher, especially early in his career the networks didn't consider him a moneymaker.

Pacquiao while far less skilled, has a style that is more desirable and easily sold to the general public who lets face it is more amused by violence than technical skill.


I don't see how any serious person can say Packy is more skilled when he's clearly not and needs to be matched properly to look good.

Marquez on the other hand can be matched against anyone and be a winner.

Pac taken the lead.

Pac has clearly accomplished more.

Marquez is clearly the better boxer.

I geuss it depends on how you define greatness.

I lean towards Pac overall.
