Cowboy Stadium to set indoor boxing record?

Boxing promoter Bob Arum said ticket sales for the Nov. 13 Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito super welterweight fight at Cowboys Stadium have exceeded expectations.

"This one, I think, will go over 60,000," Arum said on a conference call with reporters Wednesday afternoon.

The first boxing match in Cowboys Stadium -- between Joshua Clottey and Pacquiao on March 13 -- drew 50,994, the third largest crowd for an indoor fight in boxing history.

"The response to the ticket sales has been great," Arum said. "We're tracking well ahead of where we were of the Clottey fight, so I'm very, very optimistic."

The largest indoor attendance was 63,315 in 1978 when Muhammad Ali fought Leon Spinks at the Louisiana Superdome in a heavyweight title fight.

Arum said it was good that the Dallas/Fort Worth area sports fan was willing to spend more money on the Texas Rangers during their World Series run, proving that the DFW market was thriving and that he's not concerned about adding another big event.

Arum cited the fight's international appeal for the brisk sales, which should draw a diverse crowd. Pacquiao is from the Philippines, where he is an elected Congressman. Margarito is from Tijuana, Mexico.

The outdoor boxing attendance record was set Feb. 20, 1993, in Mexico City. A reported 136,274 came for the Julio Cesar Chavez-Greg Haugen WBC welterweight bout at Estadio Azteca.

What's the highest ticket and lowest ticket price?
I'm sure it will sell if the tickets are as cheap as the Pac/Clottey tickets were...but the only con about selling the tickets so cheap is that even though they have a huge crowd the gate money will never break records...

Poacquiao gets bigger as time goes by and texas has so many mexicans that it will be crazy. They will all bum rush as the gate fight night. I'm guessing 70k people for the fight. But 1.25 for ppv buys to make boxing 1 and 2 for biggest ppvs of the year

damn, pac vs clottey was only 12 k plus short of breaking the biggest attendance.....margo is way bigger draw than clottey so this might really break the record for real!

People like to go for a night out , live gate will always be good entainment value , look at Hattons lives gates , even Mundine vs Green did over 50,000 live gate , PPV is the real power play at the negotiating table and I hope this does well for PPV numbers other wise Floyd will want a much bigger slice and Manny will walk again .

You are right. However, what Arum knows that you don't realize is that Jerry Jones will buy another 30,000 (cheap) tickets and give them away to his employees, friends and acquaintances, just like he did with the Pac/Clottey fight. 30 plus 27 equals 57,000. Arum will only need to sell an additional 3,000 tickets to get to 60,000.
