not really. Ali was beaten a number of times during his career, as well as most of the ATGs.

I'd say genius gives one a HUGE advantage, but given the right circumstances, even that isn't enough to secure a win in boxing.

I don't see how Ali was a technical genius more than just a very gifted athletic specimen.

His technique by conventional standards was poor but worked for him because of his attributes much like RJJ.

and how do you identify talent vs mediocrity?

you might as well say "the winner always wins"

So his talent and genius were not enough to overcome his ego, but Baldomir was? You did write this, did you not? "no compansation for mediocrity. talent takes it all". Baldomir was mediocrity, maybe even a tad below. Judah was all talent. The fact is though that mediocrity can overcome talent when it has the larger desire to win and history is chock full of examples. Barkley over Hearns, Douglas over Tyson, Backus over Napoles, Marciano over Walcott, the list goes on and on.

Best of all, Kirkland Laing over Duran.

I disagree. Prescott was average but he somehow managed to beat Amir the genius.
