Why Is Roy Jones Jr Disliked/hated So Much?????

He got a big mouth. People hate on Toney and Mayweather for the same reasons. They're the best so they talk the most.

Yeah ALi had a big mouth too but there are more people that like him then hate him. You can't please everyone. I'm sure there are more people like Roy than not.

Well, it's already started here on boxingscene.com with guys like TheTruth, but people will like Roy a lot more when he's retired. These kids are just finding out how great Roy used to be and expecting him to beat Tarver, and it's all cute, but at least wait til Roy is gone to say he could have beat so and so...

It's like this, if you have talent/skills, and you are a talker, or bragging about it, people take it as being arrogance, overconfidence, or being conceited. As if you are MORE than anyone else. People don't take to kindly to an avid talker, unless they are an anchorman, DJ, talk show host, or a commentator. Its funny though, because if certain people were placed in the same situation, and had the same level of talent, more times than not they would act the same way...and run their mouth more than a little, and end up like he did with his


But people love Ali because he wasn't just a talker, he was a doer. He didn't just talk about how good he was, or how bad everyone else was(well, I take that back, he did), but he did other things with his talking...like standing up to the draft board, speaking out against issues...his talking was also positive and not all about boxing.

It's because he went around shouting that he was the best... But he's spent his whole career slipping up a weight division and down a weight division to avoid fighting the best.

Basically he's ducked and avoided the best in each division for years.

Basically, you'll find that a lot of the people who hate Roy just have bias within them for some silly reason or another, and they turn out to be hypocrites.

Take Martin here, our good friend from England. Talks about Roy's unwillingness to fight people, never cites other fighter's failures to become Roy's mandatory challenger, never cites how other fighters were not willing to fight the Champ in the U.S., and last, but not least...

Martin says all this BS about Roy's unwillingness to fight top guys and take risks, but Roy faced many top 10 fighters in his weight class, a few hall of famers, and yet Martin will naturally ignore this and cite only the skewed "facts" which support his agenda.

What makes Matin the worst hypocrite of all is his Calzaghe sig. Calzaghe ****ing backed out of a fight with GLEN JOHNSON...yeah, Joe has balls, lemme tell ya.

Actually I think Roy gets alot of love on this board. I've been to other boxing forums and damn near everyone is on Roy hate mode.


but to answer the question. Roy is hated on because he is one of the most talented fighters to lace up gloves yet there's alot of quality fighters that he never met in the ring for different reasons. I like Roy but he did leave alot of questions about his career.
