Cotto-Margarito 2 and Chavez jr vs Foreman actually makes a lot of sense. Cotto vs Margarito 2 as a main event, Foreman(after a tune up, obbviously) vs Chavez Jr. and put te return of Ivan Calderon in the same card n NY and you have 40K+ people in Yankee stadium and 700K-900K PPV buys, easily

I say, have it in Vegas or Cowboys Stadium.

Sorry buddy but I read someplace that the Yankee stadium will not host a boxing event again. Guess it was too much money(?)

How do you see the JCC jr/Gomez fight?
What somewhat heartens me is that by most accounts, Chavez Jr is pretty lazy and has yet to report to the Wild Card to train with Roach. He also passed up a chance to train with Pacquiao and Roach overseas. That tells me he's underestimating Gomez(or just doesn't care enough). And despite his disadvantages, Gomez does have some advantages going in. I believe he is the better technician of the two fighters, and possesses better hand and foot speed. He's also faced better fighters over his career than Jr has, and that experience is valuable. I also think Roach will tell Jr to use his height and try to keep Gomez on the end of his jab a la the early rounds of the Duddy fight, but that could actually play into Gomez's hands a little bit. Jr's jab is somewhat lazy in my opinion, and I think he'll find Gomez a harder target than Duddy and will get that jab slipped and countered a good bit early, and attempting to box Gomez will allow Gomez to set the pace he wants. And while Jr improved offensively against Duddy, Duddy had zero problems finding Jr and so I doubt Gomez will have any issues doing the same. After a few rounds of taking punches, Jr will probably revert to giving up his height and slugging more, making him easier to outbox, but harder to keep at bay for Gomez. My overall optimistic prediction is that Gomez will win most of the early and middle rounds, but fade a bit down the stretch where the fight becomes a war, but he hangs on for a competitive but clear decision win. Regardless of outcome though, it would surprise me if it is not a good fight.Last edited by HitBattousai; 10-27-2010, 11:09 PM.

Obviously besides going up two weight classes, Chavez Jr is Arum's easy cash cow with his Latin Fury PPVs and now Arum is talking about making bigger money with Jr with potential future fights against Pacquiao, Cotto, and Foreman. All of this leads me to believe that Jr, who would already be favored with the judges as the money man, will be even more so as this could be the lead-in to a major fight. And Jr has arguably the best trainer in the world backing him up.

I gotta admit, I don't know a whole lot about JCC jr (which makes his high fight count seem a little odd to me) except that he does have skills. Gomez however, I did watch him throughout The Contender and became a fan ever since. He has a lot of HEART, which is the main thing that draws me to a fighter. I was torn when Gomez fought Gatti, but Gomez looked good and fought a warrior and won. Gomez was supposed to be a tune-up for Gatti, and then Gatti was supposed to fight JCC jr. Gomez wanted to fight JCC jr after the Gatti win but they turned him down after he beat Ben Tackie.
It was both sad and bad for him the way the JLC fight turned out. You could see that Alfonso was not happy that Jose just showed up for a paycheck, and it did nothing to help Gomez career. I think it was a huge let down for Alfonso and he's ready to shine again.
Even though JCC jr has a lot of fights under his belt, Gomez is the veteran in this fight. I like the match up because Gomez is going to give it everything he has, and I don't believe he will be intimidated by JCC jr., Roach, politics or anything. Gomez has been persuing a fight with JCC jr since he came off of The Contender over 4 years ago. This is a fight he has wanted for a really long time so he definately has motivation behind him.
My only question is how Alfonso will do at 154 since all of his fights since The Contender (I believe) were at Welter Weight and that's where he's ranked. However, Gomez was used to fighting the bigger guys in the T.C. (Middle Weight) series so he's done it before.
A lot of people seem to have unanswered questions about JCC jr., so this fight is going to answer a lot of them IMO. If Gomez comes in top shape and his hand is 100% (he broke it during a fight and fought with it injured in another) then I expect this should be a really good fight, with maybe some (possible Round of the Year type) great action.
Side note: Gomez doesn't have a high KO % but he has knocked out a couple of guys with a left hook to the liver...
