Not one fighter/promoter tandem would do anything different if HBO gave them the option of making VERY good money while taking little risk.

that's an incredibly short sighted strategy. That's what a B-fighter like Gatti would do because he knows if he steps up to the big boys he'd get spanked. If Berto is an A-fighter, he'll have to do better.

I don't like Berto, but this is entirely on HBO. You can't ask him to start taking less than he's already been making....HBO set the bar, and they set it wayyyy too high.

Berto vs Cotto should be 50-50! If Cotto was still undefeated and champion at the top of his game than a 45-55 would be fair. Right now Berto is building a career and making money.

I agree with Grustler on this one. Whichever way it is, I don't think the fight will ever happen. But I wouldn't mind seeing Berto fight the winner of Bradley vs. Alexander, which I think will be Bradley. Some very good fights could be made around 140-147....

I agree with most of you point, but it would not be fair for Cotto, who has a huge following to go 50-50 with Berto who brings a very small percentage of fans and money. He will be lucky if they offer him 60-40 but that's not the problem. The problem is that the offer has not been made and will not be made and that is very unfair to the parties and the fans.
The old maricon doesn't negotiate any more. He tell the press and awaits for the begging call from Dibella, just like He's not negotiating with ANY other promoter.
