Vernon Forrest is just a better fighter, has nothing to do with styles. You put Mosley in there with a second rate jab-right hand puncher and Mosley flattens him.

The ref is a player hater, he stole Joe's k.o finish.

              see what i mean
Sure, but the thing is this...

If someone says "I think Manny will beat Floyd because Floyd has problems with fast southpaws, and pressure fighters have been known to give him trouble. Manny is the best southpaw and the best pressure fighter that Floyd has faced and will simply be too much for him, plus the fact that speed and reflexes are a big part of why Floyd is so good, but against Pac he won't have those advantages" then that's fine.

If someone says "I expect Mayweather to beat Pac because the skillful, counter-punching style is clearly a problem for Pac, as seen by the JMM rematch where he arguably lost the fight. Though Pac has been impressive in the past 2 and a half years, this is primarily because his opposition have not possessed that kind of style and skill, and have instead been most aggressive and defensively flawed, which is a style that he deals very well with. Even against Cotto, in a fight he was clearly winning, he was visibly frustrated in the later rounds as MC used the whole of the ring to try and avoid trading. Floyd's footwork, D and upper body movement are superior to JMM and he will cause a lot more frustration than Cotto, and Pac is going to really struggle when not only can he not catch up to his opponent, but he is getting caught by flush right hands every time he even comes close" then that's fine.

What's not fine is when someone says "Pac/Floyd will win coz styles make fights".

how can you get tired of something that is TRUE!

sure you can get tired of it if you actually don't fully understand what people mean when they say it

Conversely, if Mosley was better than Forrest, he would've imposed himself on him and knocked him out.

I particularly agree with the bold. 'Styles make fights' is true but it's also overly symplistic and shows zero understanding of the sport.

If you ask someone why Cotto beat Shane but Shane beat Margarito, even though Margarito beat Cotto, they'll say "styles make fights" as if they're being insightful, when really they're saying nothing worthwhile. The cliche has become so overused because people think that parroting a line like that makes them look smart.

The saying also overlooks the differences in strategy from fight to fight. Shane didn't fight the same way against Cotto that he did against Margarito. Ali didn't fight the same way against Frazier that he did against Foreman. Some guys fight with the same style every single time, and that happens to be a bad matchup for other styles. Other guys make small but significant changes, and others make big changes and change their style completely.
this sums it up ,.....good post!

                      WRONG!!!

Mosley struggle against certain styles: Counter Punchers, BOXERS, guys who can move well LATERALLY! All you have to do is look at all his career loses...Forrest Twice, Winky Twice, Cotto, Mayweather, Mora...none of them are Brawlers, none of them are one-dimensional fighters that only can fight coming forward

Mosley biggest wins in his career came against the Mexican Fighters...WHY??? Because Mosley is from California and he grew up training with Mexican fighters so he knows that style like the back of his hand, but what makes him more dominating against that style is that he can fight that style but he is also blessed with A LOT MORE SPEED and Athleticism...So Mosley can out brawl and brawler and he can beat at fighter that fights coming forward to the punch because of his amazing hand speed and overall quickness...BUT...he struggles when he doesn't have the speed advantage and the foot speed advantage and he struggles with moving targets

So "STYLE MAKE FIGHTS" is not just something people say because it sounds cool...STYLES TRULY MAKE FIGHTS!
