well, the damage was already done by lewis with the eye but, vitali was coming on big time... and it didn,t help lewis coming in out of shape because he was truly sucking wind... i don,t know how many days before vitali took the fight but, he should,ve been given a proper rematch by lewis to shut up the critics... i can just imagine if vitali had a 12 week training camp... woooooooo....

      Agreed. Bring back the oldies.

On another note: what the peep? Why can't people accept how good Lewis was? Vit is great, Lewis was better. It could easily have gone the other way, but it did not. Not that night.

Vitali was supposed to fight another fighter on the undercard of Lewis - Kirk Johnson, so he was well in training.

Maybe Vitali didn't have a full, entire training camp, but it's clear Lewis didn't either. As you said, didn't help that he came in out of shape.

Vitali wouldn't have lasted another 6 rounds with that eye, simple as that. If an old Lennox can do that to prime Vitali, imagine what prime Lennox does?

            THE TRUTH

Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice.

Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis was badly hurt and was staggering around the ring like a drunk, he barely survived the 2nd round. Lewis was getting outboxed, outworked, outlanded and was hurt several times in the fight.

            punches landed

            Vitali 156

            Lewis 102

Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.

All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis after the fight.

            Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.

Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The scared Lewis retired shortly after that fight.

Lewis turned down 30 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.

Vitali dominated Lewis and scared him into retirement.

Lewis has flashbacks and nightmares about vitali, like rocky does about ivan drago.

I like the pictures you display but not your words. You are wrong. There were acoupleof very superficial cust below VK's eye, and that diagonal; gash in his eyebrow. yet he was OK and still fighting mad when the dr, pulled the plug.

It was an awful cut, Lennox was very fortunate to have placed the punch that initially cut him and that the punch was able to do so, it was a legit non controversial win as a result but the way he won in no way proved he was a better fighter than Vitali, in fact to this day no one has ever proved that.

The same could have been said about Lennox. He came into the fight out of shape, didn't have his timing and was not as crisp as he usually was with his punches. If he had it all, as he usually did, he would have been tougher to handle..... and in that fight, it wasn't easy as some of the Klitchs fans make it out to be. They both gave and took.

No matter how you look at it, in the end, Lennox won the fight and stopped Vitali. That is what you will see as the result. Lennox = won, Vitali = Lost.

As for a rematch, who didn't want to see it but at least we got to see 1 fight between them. Sometimes, you don't even get that.
