This isn't the first time a Vacant title is fought over with a catchweight

Sugar Ray Leonard Vs Donny Lalonde Fought for the Vacant WBC Super middleweight title with a catch weight.

Henry Armstrong vs Ceferino Garcia fought for the Vacant World Super Middleweight title with a catch weight.

but those guys are bums anyway right?

Sugar Ray and Armstrong's legacies were destroyed by these bull**** catchweight fights for vacant titles. They could've gone down in the History books as all time greats, but they cheated History and look how they are regarded now...

Well here is where you fail bro.

One the SRL-Lalonde fight for the SMW vacant title was not at a catch-weight it was fought at the limit of 168. Which is the SMW limit.

However what made it bogus was that the SMW and LHW title was on the line. WHich IMO is far worse than this fight.

And, with the Armstrong-Garcia fight. The title was not vacant. Cerefino Garcia was the lineal MW champ. And, I am not so sure it was at a catch-weight either. Prior to those fights Garcis usually always weight in at 152-155 range.

Just cuz they didn't come to the max limit doesn't mean it is a catch-weight fight. Marg-Pwill both weight in like at 145. However, the limit was 147 both just came under. Doesn't mean the fight was at a catch-weight of 145.

i think it is cool we have those catchweight *****s around. i mean, it does help both boxers be below the weight limit and prevent those unnecessary postponed fights due to overweight issues. they can prepare much longer to weigh in lighter than do a 5hour spa to sweat it all out just to make weight.

Right? And even if they did, just because others have done it in history doesn't mean its ok for someone else to do it, the 'they did it so he can do it too' thing is possibly the lamest thing ive ever read on here.

I havent decided how I feel about catchweights. I think they can be used really well, but at the same time can cheapen the sport and make some real mismatches.

If you're going to defend something, take the time to make sure its actually somewhat accurate. Armstrong never fought Garcia for any 168 title and its funny you even write the statement because the 168 division was created in the late 80s with that leonard-dalonde fight. Second, the fact that I'm outraged is that people are going to claim this 'historic, divine, almighty, sexy' eight world title when its this is the second time he tries to win a new title with a catchweight. AND!! its coming against a guy who committed the cardinal sin in boxing and after only a years worth of suspension, is given this undeserving, pathetic opportunity.

Yeah but Lalonde was a LHW- fighting in the brand new 168 division.

So Sugar ray basically made a light heavyweight go down in weight to gain a super middleweight title.

I still count it- it's the same principle. Except this catchweight doesn't hurt margarito as much as it hurt lalonde.
