lucian Bute is all smoke and mirrors

From what I saw this weekend Bute looked uncomfortably awkward against a C+ fighter undersized Brinkley. Brinkley's head movement stopped Bute from letting his hands go and Bute was hit with a lot of punches I was honestly surprised by. He finally took Brinkley out but this fight showed where he shakes out against the other top super middle weights of the world, and its not good.

To me he is beaten by Andre Ward easily, Mikkel Kessler easily, Carl Froch easily and crushed by The King Arthur Abraham. If he fights Pavlik and Pavlik looks good in his comeback fight against Vera I think Pavlik will brutalize him as well. Really thought this kid was something but now I think he has just been matched very very carefully and shined when in with B level fighters.

IM no Bute fan but he didnt not struggle a bit, may have looked a little uncomfortable and never really got hit with anything clean.

Plus he is a B level fighter and there is no A level fighter at 168

Nah Bute is the real deal and will give any of the other top fighters serious problem and I believe he has what it takes to actually beat anyone out there at 168. I would still favor someone like Andre Ward to win though, but it won't be easy.

He would beat AA because he has speed, good foot movement and a bonus in that he is a brilliant body puncher.

Bute is dangerous.....he is the real deal.... guys just cannot take his body shots, and when he steps up the competition he will prove it.

I wouldnt go that far but I think he does have a questionable chin and problems with stamina, so your points are good. He has power, he has speed but this fight really gave me the impression that against another top tier guy he will get plowed. Honestly put Brinkley in with any of the previous mentioned opponents and he gets stomped. He has defintely fallen in love with that uppercut, a dangerous punch for his opponents and himself.

i agree he adjusts well, has handspeed, footspeed, head movement is a thinker......look at the traps he sets for the body shots?? I can't remeber a fighter in recent memory who is KO'ing guys so regularly to the body. Andrade and Miranda may have gone down after shots to the head, but it was the body shot's a few seconds before that did all the damage.

he is dangerous to any fighter at 168.

smoke and mirrors playa a large role in boxing today.

Just how it is. I wouldnt isolate Bute from this observation.

And really he made a mandatory defense most 168 guys are tied up. Im not so quick to judge. Really all the Ward nuthugging he only beat 1 highly regarded fighter in Kessler...cmon people. Jumping to conclusions too quick.
