Comments Thread For: Povetkin Not Happy With His Fight, Return Likely on 12/18

2004 Olympic gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin was not happy with his performance on Saturday in Russia. In what many expected to be an easy tune-up before a return in Germany on October 30, turned into a tough fight before Povetkin knocked out his foe, Teke Oruh of Nigeria, in the fifth round.

A year ago I was ridiculed for saying Teddy Atlas will ruin Povetkin.

But in this fight (which is in our videos section) Povetkin looked the worst I've ever seen him. He's always had some baby fat, but I've never seen him so soft and out-of-shape as he is now.

Oruh was overweight and in even worse shape, but still he was able to hurt Povetkin with some rights.

In his 6th pro fight, Povetkin fought tough and physically fit journeyman Friday Ahunyana. Friday is clearly a better fighter than Oruh, but at that time Povetkin had no problems with him.

Teddy Atlas is a cancer and Povetkin is regressing under his tutelege.

Atlas is a nutty as a fruitcake.

          I blame Povetkin, not Atlas.

It is Povetkin's career and he can take control anytime he wants but he chooses not to do so.

I think he just got content after he made some money and bought his first Benz, that has nothing to do with Atlas.

Povetkin basically has the same amount of desire as Odlanier Solis and eventually people will see it's his shortcomings and not Atlas' that will end his career well short of it's potential.

If at this stage in his career, Povetkin is still not happy with what he is doing in the ring with a bum, then he doesn't belong any where near a Klitschko.

I have said it countless times sasha has never fought anyone who could punch.he's had good wins vs Friday, chambers, donald,Byrd & journeyman Nolan...what do they all have in common? None of them can punch hard...he has never been hit by a big punching heavyweight.atlas is not the question mark it's sashas chin...no one has seen him fight or take a big punch.he would get killed by either klitschko.you put todays klits in the 90's & imagine how awesome the division would have been....prime Tyson,Holyfield,Rahman, maskaev, tua, lennox, bowe, etc ...too bad there is no one today who can compete with either guy.Emmanuel steward said 4 years ago he didn't see anyone beating either klit before they retire.he saw no one coming up & he was right.the last big fight that could be made is the haye fight but I see either klit destroying haye.vitali for sure & wlad as well but there is the small chance haye could land the big one vs wlad but I doubt it...
