^^^As dramatic as this article is, I get what the writer believes in, or is trying to suggest...I'm guessing he means, b/c Pacquiao vs Mayweather won't happen, it will start a chain of events that will ultimately lead to the downfall of Boxing as a sport....Maybe? I dunno, I don't know the lottery numbers either, BUT he fails to realize, or acknowledge the fact that HBO isn't ****** enough to lose Floyd's ability to generate money for them, today. Even if, just saying, even if HBO has had it up to here with Floyd, what are they gonna do? Nothing, they're just gonna milk him, same with Manny Pacquiao, and the same with the next superstar, and so on and so forth. Boxing won't die b/c of Floyd, boxing will only die when the fans stop paying attention...now, will that happen b/c Pacquiao vs Mayweather never materialized? Maybe for the writer, but not for me.Floyd makes HBO money so they will want to stay involved with him until that changes.
Does HBO make any money from Floyd not fighting or do they make money from Floyd fighting, that should answer what will happeans when Floyd decides to fight againt (regargless of opposition). Or Floyd will just say "Hey Showtime I want to do a PPV against Fighter X (not Manny)" and Showtime will say "What Date do you want?".
This article implies that HBO can actually do something onthe matter other than throw money at it, when they are pretty much powerless except from being a money ****ket. They can only hurt Floyd after the fact (he will need them again, just not currently).

Maybe fans don't actually care whether boxing remains a niche sport
or not, but it's clear where it's heading. Fighters who haven't done
enough want to go straight to the big fights. And when they win and
become big, they'd start avoiding the big fights.Comment

no one should give money to boxers who refuse to fight the best but the television networks and the fans continue to do so over and over which keeps boxing on life support. mismatch fights and manufactured super fights are the norm. there are no regulators to say hey this is wrong the best should fight the best. the fans certainly aren't regulating look at the 1 million ppvs the mayweather-marquez disgrace did.Comment

How about fans stop demanding these big fights?
Let them fighters cherrypick all they want as long as they
don't go on vacation as much. After all, it's entertainment.
It even make sense. Why would you as a fan of Floyd or
Pacquiao, for example, would you want to see them in an
embarrassing situation? Why not let them pick their own
fights and do their thing on the ring. It's better than seeing
them less often.Comment
