its not more brutal.. boxing is pretty much 12 rounds of punching each others heads until one falls. Whereas UFC they have limited stand up and a lot of the times they end up on the floor losing to a submission, it probably hurts more in some instances though, they also have very thin gloves so a good flush shot to the jaw usually ends it. Some knockouts are frightening however, especially the knees and sometimes fighters breaking bones etc. PRIDE is more brutal than UFC.
Why do so many people like to watch UFC?

ufc or mma is just more fighting for me to watch. i like any and almost all combat sports, hell, i'll even watch bugs fight.
as for it being brutal, thats just soft nerves if you ask me, there is way more brutality in this world that we tolerate on a day to day basis without batting an eye (i.e the news) compared to two guys who legally sign a contract to fight one another with proper time to train (usually) for one another. there are rules and once someone gets hurt or in trouble, 8-9 times out of 10 the ref is there to stop the action.
in boxing, guys get hurt and keep getting hit over and over and over again on the hurt or damaged area during a bout or even sparring (fighting you dont see, even with head gear). after being knocked down and maybe being concuss (because no one knows until the fighter is checked out by a doctor), the boxer keeps getting hit over and over again and risks serious and permanent damage. thats pretty brutal if you ask me, but since we don't see it or see the damage immediately, its out of sight out of mind and we don't care unless something bad really happens.
if you were grossed out by the crocop ko loss and his dislocated knee, which was brutal, but they show people getting busted up and breaking bones all the time on tv with skaters falling and busting bones, to people crashing while skiing, car crashes, donorcycles, you name it, tv shows ****ed up brutal stuff, way worse than someone getting kicked in the face in a sporting match up which is on tv. funny the viciousness of it all.
back to the matter at hand, mma is fine, boxing as a sport, I think is better and takes a higher level of precision, finesse, and a higher level of concentration of thought and intelligence. the reason why i think this way is because in wrestling, bjj, judo at some level it becomes physical feel, grappling and laying on someone or laying in position, lets someone just use brute and abandon technique without consequence.
where as in boxing, the constant moving and positioning, trying to control and dictate your opponent without touching them,i.e footwork, feints, throw away jabs, etc. in boxing you can't just throw all that out and just tackle someone and lay on the ground holding them because you couldn't compete with them standing up, you have to keep thinking, moving, finding a way to be SMARTER, not rely on brute. now i will say that all of mma is hard and takes a ton of intelligence at the top level, just like boxing, but at that level keeping the eloquence of the science in boxing takes more mental acuteness. i've heard other mma guys say the same thing but not disrespecting their own craft, and i don't either, all fighting is tough, boxing i think is tougher.
just for the simple fact that if a fight wasn't done under the rules of boxing, they would all end up being on the ground. it's natural to run into one another and wrestle one another to the ground and go berserk. in boxing they get separated, or stood back up, then set up again to fight on. to where the fighters may repeat the same natural habits of colliding with one another again, until it takes a level of intelligence to not let that happen and to implement different attacks and strategies, offense as defense, all that is the sweet science, and keeps one above his opponent, being the smarter fighter.

I'm getting up there in age(25) so everyone I know either watches boxing or if had the choice would choose boxing over MMA. I don't get MMA and never will but I assume people like it because you get more blood and quicker knockouts. People watch MMA because it's more of a fight. People watch boxing because it's viewed more as a sport. Just my 2 cents.Comment
