Why do so many people like to watch UFC?

Last Saturday, I was out at a bar in Montreal. Just sitting back, enjoying a beer and the atmosphere in the bar at the time. When I noticed that they had the last UFC fight between Gabriel Gonzaga and Mirko Cro Cop on. As I watched, I began to notice how brutal these fight still are, as competitors punch and elbow each other in the head (not that Mirko Cro Cop did very much in the match). So, I began to wonder to myself, "How could people possibly like this?" if you are ufc fans, if you want to buy ufc dvd, i think hotdvdshop.com is better choice for you.I am always surprised by how many people I know that actually watch UFC. Even people that normally frown on watching TV, and read books in there spare time seem to like UFC. So I ask, "Am I the only one that doesn't like UFC?

Sure it is different than the way that it used to be. I remember back in high school, seeing matches that may friend recorded from Pay Per View, where people would have blood pouring out of their foreheads and fighters would get pounded on by their competitors if ever they got on the ground. But now, the fights seem a lot cleaner and prettied up so that you can still recognize the fighters after the match is over.

But, I still worry about the level of damage these fighters are receiving each fight. The fact that people are actually damaging the other person disturbs me. Not that everyone that watches UFC is thinking of that. Back in the 80s, I use to watching Wrestling fully believing that it was real. It didn't bother me when Hulk Hogan went out to the ring and used violence to try to beat his opponent. Part of it probably was that everything was so clean and it was entertaining to think that the matches weren't already decided.

The unpredictability of each match in UFC, is probably what draws people in and has allowed it to became the new wrestling since WWE wrestling has been shown to be fake. Then again, maybe we just like to watch a good fight, as for years boxers have been knocking each other out without any outrage. In any case, I don't think I will be watching UFC again any time soon. But I would like to know what you think of UFC. Am I over reacting?

Because It's closer to real fighting than any other sport.

And yes you are overreacting. If you think something is entertaining, watch it!

Its really no more violent than boxing. For the record, no ex MMA fighters have come out punchy or speech impaired, so I think its safe to say boxers have more damage to worry about.

mma fighters can get just as punch drunk as boxers.

it might be less likely though.

          it's because in boxing it's 100% punches/striking.

          in mma there's grappling involved.

tapping out is also allowed in mma. if you're getting your ass beat , no shame in tapping out rather than get hurt too much.

in boxing you can't quit even if you want to.

Do you know this for a fact?

And IMO MMA is more violent than boxing. You can get a knee to the face, and while you're lying on the ground uncousious , the opponent can stomp on your face a couple times before the Ref stops the fight (ref isnt fast enough to stop it imediately)

Boxing isn't as brutal in the ring, but being constantly hit in the head over a long period of time can **** your brain up, leave you punch drunk, parkinsons etc..

Boxing matches are also much longer than MMA matches. In UFC you fight like 2-3 rounds each fight, and because of the light gloves the fight often ends after a couple of clean punches.

In boxing you get hit constantly to the head over a much longer period of time.

Are you kidding me? How is it more brutal. At least in MMA if you get knocked down, a few more punches on the ground and its over. In boxing the chance at brain damage is a lot more likely since fighters get knocked down several times on numerous occasions and get back up to receive more brain damage.

None of the MMA fighters have come out punchy, at least not a single top fighter yet.
As to which is more violent, again, in boxing you take a lot more punishment to you brain. Getting kneed and elbowed does suck a lot, but a couple of knees or elbows isnt as bad long term as getting punched in the head 300 times per fight, its not even close.

I watch UFC when there aint no boxing on. Why not, it's a combat sport. The whole Boxing vs UFC thing is very childish.

Also kneeing, kicking and stomping a downed opponent are illegal in UFC, and all MMA in US.
