What about defense wise? I might agree with Leonard on agressiveness but in terms of defence Mayweather has to be up there.

You can't say "resume aside" because we can only see how skilled he truly is if he challenges himself and fights top opposition.

You have to base it off of resume IMO, atleast to some degree.

Floyd is high in terms of defensive skills all time, probably top 5. I think Pep, Locche, Whittaker are ahead of him, but after that Floyd and a few others have a case.

Resume aside, if we were to look at just the skill and technique throughout the history of boxing would Floyd be viewed as the #1 ATG skilled boxer?
You can't say resume aside. There have been others who looked great and skillful until they fought elite fighters or primed fighters or fighters that were not made for them stylistically. Others who were very careful to pick and choose opponents that were less risky.

No offense, but you didn't exactly ask an intelligent question.

But to answer your question, no.

I love Floyd's defensive ability and skills. He's definitely up there, but without a good resume and testing his skills against the best of his era, it's impossible to answer yes to your question without subjectivity and biasness.

Power punching is a skill. It requires the skill of leverage and timing. Floyd's score is 6 out of 10 in this skill.

Hand speed is a skill. Floyd is a potshot artist, not a combo hand speed puncher. Floyd's score 7 and of 10.

In terms of defensive skills, Benitez, Pep, Benny Leonard, Tommy Loughran, Gene Tunney, Billy Conn, Gentleman Jim Corbett, Whitaker, and Billy Conn have fought real offensively threatening opponents. They were tested against heavy fire. Castillo, Judah, Gatti, old Oscar, old Mosley, overblown Marquez and Coralles are nothing compared to the opponents the above mentioned defensive geniuses have faced. Floyd cannot even be ranked in the all time list of defensive fighters due to the fact that he has never fought anyone of any serious threat.

Ring generalship. Same comment as above. No real opponents. No real tests. Floyd has not fought enough to prove himself.

Floyd is obviously up there, and if the level of opposition he's faced isn't enough to measure his skills against other ATGs, then nothing is.

Floyd's lightweight resume is solid but not great, his welterweight career has been a horrible joke... one that people have shelled out good money to watch for some reason

From 05-10, he could've fought Margarito, Shane, Cotto, Williams, and even Pacquiao. Instead he fought Judah (natural 140-lber), Carlos Baldomir (), Ricky Hatton (natural 140-lber), and Marquez (a career featherweight, blown up 2 divisions from lightweight). He finally took on Shane only when he was 38, had been inactive for a year and 3 months, had to go through back-to-back training camps, had a back injury from sledding, and after a Earthquake killed his scheduled fight. And he still almost got KTFO in 2 rounds. Hype is a helluva thing.
