Julio Cesar Chavez is not overrated IMO

Everyone says Julio Cesar Chavez is overrated...but I just watched his fights last night at lightweight...and the guy was just devastating....He was a master in the ring...

I know people bring up his fights with Whitaker and Taylor...

IMO he was slightly passed his prime against Taylor but still managed to destroy him...and if it was a 15 round like the champions back in the day (the difference between boys and men)
Chavez would have KNOCKED him out!

and was way past his prime losing to Whitaker, but a prime Whitaker would still probably have beet him cuz Whitaker is a all time great...

but what really impressed me about Chavez was his 11th round TKO against the hard hitting Edwin Rosario...he fought a great fight, breaking Rosario down for the later rounds and finishing him in the 11th...

He showed his great ring skills in that fight...he was unstoppable, except against Roberto Duran...LOL

Like Ultimate says, "Chavez was like a rock in that fight," and he was...

That is my opinion on the Mexican legend, Julio Cesar Chavez...

    Your thoughts?

ps. IWATCHBOXING, your on ignore for this thread...

He is, I always thought he was overrated till I saw him at lightweight, where he would destroy and fighter...except Duran and don't know about Pryor...

I would love to see Chavez-Pryor

I think he is an all-time great,

        he is overrated by

        - those who think he is THE greatest, and consider any fantasy match-up with him to be an insult

        - those who bring his padded record in as a proof of his greatness, instead of looking at single fights, like rosario or taylor (notice I am still of the opinion that the fight should not have been stopped and therefore it woulda been a L on chavez record, but the way he slowly demolished taylor is scary, a work of art, starting from the first round)

duran would possibly beat duran cos he had a bigger frame

I think pryor would be taken into very deep water by chavez (and possibly stopped late?) after winning a few rounds

I think the hawk had the wrong style to fight chavez: the kind of fighter that could have given chavez trouble is a defensive master like mayweather or benitez

            Agreed...

Remember if it was a 15 rounder Chavez would have destroyed him, that's they way it should be today...

            True, records don't mean ****..

The only thing that defines a career is fights against big names...

He fought lots of bums because he didnt have a big amateur career..

              Duran would beat Chavez..

I think Chavez would prolly beat Pryor like you said..

Castillo got robbed against Mayweather and Chavez is more skilled, I think Chavez would have a better chance then most people think..

true (or a very close fight with unrealistic biased scoring, whatever, this is not the point) but mayweather won the second one fair and square,

IF pbf can beat chavez he would need to be on his bicycle all of the time, not most of the time: ALL of the time.

I think this IF cannot be answered until later on in floyd's career

hey thagreatest what do you think about benitez' chances, I would never put him on the same level of chavez, but he had a couple of pluses in the matchup:

                    - he made srl miss a lot (srl words)
                    - he took a hell of punishment against hearns at 154

on the other hand his career was so screwed and he was just a kid when he fought at 140,
