As undisciplined and wild brawler that Mayorga is...you can't deny he has heart, he showed it in the Tito fight. Very few boxers would have got off their stool after the end of round 5 and not to mention keep getting up after the body shots in the 8th.

See I was thinking about Mayorga before I made my list and decided no, but really he does have a lot of heart. I forgot how long he stayed on his feet against Trinidad. I mean that body shot MADE him go down, he had no choice. He also got up twice and tried for a third time, and that's heart. Very good points.Comment

That actually might be the best list you could make. Pretty good, and for once I would have to agree with you to the T.Originally posted by DiegoFuegoLet's see some lists. I thought of mine while I was at work
1. DIEGO CORRALES: he's never finished a fight anywhere but on his feet, demanding to continue. after his dad threw the towel in on him against Mayweather, Corrales NEVER SPOKE TO HIM AGAIN. that's how mad he was that fight was stopped. not speaking to your own dad! similar situation in his other loss with Casamayor. Corrales walks around the ring, cussing anybody and everybody because in his heart he knew he could beat Casamayor. he did it in the rematch. then he rallies in the greatest comeback in all of boxing history when, eyes sealed shut, he's dropped twice in a round but somehow comes back to knock Castillo out in the very same round. you will never find a fighter with more heart than Diego Corrales. any athlete for that matter.
2. ARTURO GATTI: he's rallied to win some big fights that looked to be certain defeats and he has a BIG problem with a fight being stopped on him; however, even he's agreed enough is enough at times.
3. FERNANDO VARGAS: he hasn't been asked to show it lately but he's been known for it his entire career. his performances against Trinidad and De La Hoya speak volumes about the nature of his character. he is "never say die" embodied.
4. ERIK MORALES: he goes to war time and time again just because he has too much pride to back down. but he's also shown a great deal of heart to make it through all of those wars and he's NEVER been down (legitimately) in his entire career. he gets frustrated when he loses, sometimes behind consolation because in his heart he feels he believe he won. he beat Barrera in that 2nd fight. I'll never see it any other way.
5. LAMON BREWSTER: some people call it showing chin, but I call it heart. he definitely showed it against Wladimir Klitschko and even when Kali Meehan had him reeling against the ropes. Brewster never quits and drew on his heart to stop Klitschko and hang onto his title against Meehan.
Some other fighters that deserve honorable mentions:
JOSE LUIS CASTILLO
JESUS CHAVEZ (see his fight against Morales, fighting with one arm!)
JORGE RODRIGO BARRIOS (see his fight against Freitas, he's wiping blood on the referees shirt so he can see!)
This doesn't mean there aren't more fighters with heart out there, it just means they haven't been forced to show it yet
Vargas has arguably as much heart.....or more than any other fighter in the business.

Just to add to the Vargas thing.
He was dropped by a good shot from Rivera.......got up and finished his ass.
Suffered a broken nose late in the Quartey fight, and was eating huge bombs.....but finished strong.
And you have to look at his overall demeanor as well as the way he fights.

Floyd Mayweather has heart. He hasn't yet had to show Gatti-esque heart.....but his willingness to take on everyone speaks volumes.
Also....if you slack off in training, & are forced to fight incredibly hard.....you kind of break even on the heart issue.

No, you don't show your heart until you're in trouble, unfortunately. Guys like Mayweather and Wright, we'll probably never get to find out how much heart they had (although I've heard Winky once got up from 5 knockdowns and thought he still deserved a victory)
Just because your favorite boxer hasn't had to show heart, doesn't mean he doesn't have it, so don't get all your panties in a twist over this list. You should be proud that your guy has never been in big enough trouble to have to show his heart.
And you're right about Vargas, he probably has just as much heart as anybody in the business. Corrales, Vargas, and Gatti are all right there at the top, just a lot of people forgot about Vargas since he's been fighting lesser opposition (understandably). Remember how excited Lampley used to get when Vargas would show his desire after being knocked down? That was chilling stuff to see/hear. Vargas is amazing. I wish Corrales would get an HBO contract so we could hear Lampley cheer him on. Lampley always seems to like the guys I like.Comment

Ok how the hell do you know Mayweather has heart? That is a bogus statement because you don't know that for a factOriginally posted by jabsRstiffFloyd Mayweather has heart. He hasn't yet had to show Gatti-esque heart.....but his willingness to take on everyone speaks volumes.

Just so you know, Fuego....
I think Corrales has the biggest heart in the game.....because of what he's shown in the ring, & ALSO because he wants to face the baddest & best.

Their willingness to face the best opposition isn't what you call heart. That's desire and determination to achieve greatness. In boxing, "heart" is a term that is used to describe a fighter who is in trouble (hurt, knocked down, etc), who refuses to quit and usually comes back to rally his way to a victory. Mayweather has only been semi-hurt ONCE in his career in a fight he was dominating anyway, so you can't really say he has heart yet.Comment
