  • Comments Thread For: IBF Tourney in Play, Winning To Face Wladimir Klitschko?

Several reports in the Russian press are suggesting that the IBF is considering another four fighter elimination style tournament to crown a new mandatory challenger to IBF/IBO/WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko. The four fighters being considered are former cruiserweight champion Jean-Marc Mormeck, K2 promoted boxer Johnathon Banks and Russian pugs Alexander Dimitrenko and Denis Boytsov.

    Good news.

This is what I want to see more of in the heavyweight division: ranked contenders facing other ranked contenders, instead of ranked contender fighting journeymen.

Boytsov has a shot to win this. Him vs Wladimir would be a good fight!

yes i agree with you....this would be the 3rd time i can remember the IBF doing this.this is a nice set up with decent competition.dimitrenko, boytsov, banks all have lots to prove yet.mormeck won a disputed decision vs oquendo so he too has lots to prove as well. i remember the first time it was tua, byrd, maurice harris & donell nicholson & byrd went on to win the title shot.povetkin won the last one but has not fought the champion so we will see how this turns out.dimitrenko has a questionable chin.banks & mormeck are blown up cruiserweights who may not take a big heavyweight punch well.we have no idea if boytsov can take a punch because he has yet to fight anyone other then journeyman....this is a very interesting tourney & will answer many questions about all these guys.boytsov looks to have a punch & mormeck has some championship experience but this is very hard to predict an outcome.there are so many questions about each guy that needs to be answered....mormeck has fought haye & oquendo & several other top cruiserweights.dimitrenko lost his only step up fight vs chambers.chambers dropped him weighing 209 so his chin is in question.banks has fought adamek & a handful of journeyman.wins vs walker & a draw with gavern leaves him with little chance of winning this IMO.boytsov has wins vs gavern & maddalone so no one really knows how good he really is.hes got power but until he fights better guys its hard to get a read on him.my gut tells me boytsov or mormeck wins this tourney...

It is either Boytsov or Dimitrenko who will come out on top

          Mormeck has no stamina left
Banks doesn't perform well at HW

that tournament style is the best way to determine who is the most worthy of a mandatory shot

Boytsov takes this I think. If Dimitrenko toughned up since Chambers maybe him.

Besides Banks those guys will make entertaining HW fights.
