I don't understand. Berto had a fight in his backyard with the money going to charity and he still couldn't sell more than a few thousand tickets (if that). He's yet to beat a B fighter. Unless you count a fading Quintana and his razor thin Collazo decision. He seems to be kind of lost in the shuffle, but HBO doesn't have to pay him that money.

Berto is not the next Mayweather unless he fights Pacquiao or De la Hoya because he will never have the stardom.

So Berto is going to get Paid 1.25M to fight a slightly known fighter? And Mosley got Paid 1M to fight a known fighter in Sergio Mora! This is why its alway difficult to make future fights for people like Berto.

For Berto to fight someone like Cintron for example now he would probably be expecting 2M-2.5M which would probably kill this fight.

HBO only hypes up African Americans and DLH prototypes, everyone else is not a big enough demographic to cash in on. Ortiz, Alexander, Berto are the future stars of the sport. They aren't gonna put any of those guys in the ring with dudes that they think could beat them. They are only making the Bradley fight because when Bradley wins, they will snatch him up and be putting him on their network too so they aren't losing anything. They thought Ortiz and Alexander would just run right through Maidana and Kotelnik....they made a mistake.

              i'm with Pull.

Berto and Pwill couldn't sell out their living rooms.

PPV for them....stands for Pray People View....cuz they'd need to pray for people to watch their fights....let alone pay for them.

Shame on HBO, seriously why are they paying that much money to Berto? I don't think Berto would ever become a decent PPV star. The comparison to Mayweather is unfair too... Mayweather is actually a worthy star for HBO unlike Berto who really hasn't done much to be on the top WW list.. too bad the Mosley fight was called off. Who is this Al Haymon guy, seems like a miracle worker.

I agree but it's HBO's attempt to build Berto into a Floyd level attraction. Once Floyd retires, someone needs to fill his shoes so they are trying to do some kind of crazy stuff with Berto. I guess they are trying to milk his record as much as possible so that he will soon be like 39-0 and after all those HBO appearances, he might become a big enough name and attraction to thrust him into PPV stardom......I think he'd get crushed against Clottey, Margs, Pac, Floyd, Mike Jones, Cintron, Cotto.......I don't see the star potential to be honest. Ustream vids don't make you a star

Alvarez, Angulo, Kirkland, Jones, Martinez. You name it. They all beat him. Those are the fighters HBO should be investing in except maybe Angulo because of his immigrant situation. I'd be suprised if Martinez is making as much money as Berto for his fight with Williams and vice versa for Paul.

Im not mad at Berto for getting Overpaid or Haymon for getting him that big money. HBO is the company that needs to start acting like a business. For $1.25 million they could have had at least 50 better fights than Andre Berto vs Freddy Hernandez. And I wonder if Freddy Hernandez will make 6 figuires.
