Comments Thread For: Does the Super Six (Nine?) Boxing Classic Still Matter?

    Here we go again.

Jermain Taylor (28-4-1, 17 KO) always seemed short for the field. Following a knockout loss to Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO) one fight before entering Showtime’s increasingly chaotic “Super Six” Super Middleweight tournament, the former World Middleweight champion being slated to face hammer fisted Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO) in October 2009 had ‘early exit’ written all over it. the winner of the super six doesn't even matter anymore. all that matters is the match ups now. it's as if the tournament is non existant.

History will let the results speak for itself. The tournament part of it will just be a footnote.

I think it still matters. Everyone liked the idea of it. It just got hit with some very bad luck.

Its still boxing at the end of the day tho, match ups fought are just that.

They should have started with a tournament with losers being eliminated, not everybody fight everybody win or lose. Nobody wanted to wait five years to see a winner.

How is AA a world class SMW? He has beaten no notable SMWs other than a shot career MW in Tyalor and got totally out classed by Dirrell.

Agreed. Or they should've cut down the tournament's length to a year or less. Hell, fight more, but reduce the rounds or something if you need to, as pointlessly as that is.

Dirrell is leaving due to the lingering effects of concussion? That doesn't ****ing exist, the nearest thing I can think of is called brain damage so I think that coward better quit the sport of boxing. The only reason Dirrell is quiting the Super Six is to avoid being made to look silly by his bff Andre Ward and also to try and silence the doubter's who never believed he was KO'd by the Abraham DQ punch. In my opinion it makes an even stronger case that he's a coward who will get out of a hard fight anyway he can.

Ward has been the best fighter in the tournament and he is still in it. The tournament won't be a total waste as long as he gets to fight the winner of Froch and Abraham.
