Ward putting up a clinic against Kessler has to be the best. Second place would be Dirrell against Froch. I liked that more than the Abraham performance because he hit Froch with some brilliant counters and made him miss and look like a joke
I think its Ward's performance against Kessler, and kind of by a landslide.
Kessler was considered the best Super Middleweight in the world and had given Calzaghe a very tough fight beforehand as well.
Very few people thought Ward had any kind of shot, and plenty of them thought that Ward was going to get KOed. people forget so quickly.
Ward ended up pretty much shutting out Kessler and actually beat him up pretty bad too.
Dirrell-Abe wasnt as impressive to me, because Abraham's weaknesses have been obvious for a long time. people forget his crappy performances against Ashira and Oral among others simply because he pulls off huge KOs at the end, but hes always been a very incomplete fighter.
besides, I actually thought Abe was starting to come on late in the fight, wheras Ward was getting stronger and stronger as the fight progressed.
Kessler was off for almost a year, then went up against perdomo and didn't even look that good against him. He looked shit in the Ward fight and not too great in the Froch fight either.
Break down why the Kessler-Ward matchup was less stylistically lopsided than the Abraham-Dirrell matchup.
My point was that the matchup was lopsided both stylistically and in terms of attributes, and that Ward's performance should be considered the greater exhibition IMO because of its superior versatility and dynamism, he did a little bit of everything in there.
Also, everybody who understood the styles knew that was the case with Dirrell-Abraham coming in. The reason Abraham was fancied in peoples' breakdowns (mine included, and it was turning out to be the case) was only a combination of his immense power and Dirrell's relative fragility, but on styles and attributes Dirrell should have won that fight 10 times out of 10.
I thought Abraham retiring Taylor with that KO was the best performance.
Why isn't it in the poll?
Agreed. I think it should have been there in place of Ward-Green.
I really enjoyed Ward's performance against Green, but Ward is already represented by his defeat of Kessler and Taylor is much more of a prestige name than Green even allowing for the fact that his name was made at 160 (so was Abraham's). Abraham deserves a nomination for his stystematic breaking down of Taylor and the emphatic picture-book finish.
