A boxer cannot improve by reverting to fighting soft opposition.

Teddy Atlas is a nutcase and he's ruining Povetkin just like he ruined Michael Grant and others.

He's the worst high-profile boxing trainer of all time.

This is right. From the videos I've seen, Atlas' training of Povetkin looks similar to the training of young Tyson.

I don't know why Atlas would regress his opposition so much, but I assume it's so Povetkin is able to ingrain the new movements and techniques Teddy's teaching him without abandoning them during the fight.

This is kind of ironic because I've heard Atlas on numerous occasions criticize fighters (on FNF) for facing low level opposition. Povetkin should be fighting guys like Jason Gavern, Derrick Rossey, Dom Guinn and other fringe contenders. Fights like this (against Teke Oruh) aren't gonna help him improve...

That's right a fighter can't just change his whole fighting style. And then start fighting tough opponents. He has to practice what Atlas is teaching him in the ring. He would revert back to his old habits in a tough fight.
