Comments Thread For: Chavez Jr. Says Weight Won't Be an Issue For Gomez Bout

WBC silver middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has not fought as a junior middleweight in over a year, but he plans to decrease his weight for the fight with Alfonso Gomez on December 4 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. If he wins, a fight with WBA champion Miguel Angel Cotto will be on verge of happening in March 2011.

He's still not fighting as a Jr Middleweight in this fight, the fight is contracted at 157 lbs. Obviously Jr can try for lower if he wants, but it's not likely to happen otherwise the fight would have been made at 154 as that would have been more fair to Gomez.

          Really?

Of course weight won't be an issue for YOU!

Gomez however probably won't do too well fight 10- pounds above his natural weight against a guy who's 6' tall.

Keep dreaming. Maybe he will lose vs Cotto, maybe not. One thing´s for sure: He will not receive a bad beating.

Weight won't be an issue for me. Well, "isnt that special!" Alfonso has to come up to 157 from 147 fights of late, and you are in your comfort zone. It is like saying I use my teeth chewing gum. Master of the absurdly obvious JC!! DOn't book those rooms for the Cotto fight just yet however. Alfonso is gonna put you on your back...Pops might jump in the ring as you are gonna get an old-fashioned ass-kicking!

Bunch of haters. He is the bigger name. If Gomez wants the payday he must make the sacrafice. I dont see you hating on Manny when he makes everyone come down below their weight, and even below the devision limit. Whats worst fighting a smaller fighter that has the chance to bulk up, or fighting a heavier fighter thats weak because of killing himself trying to make weight.

The fighter wanted the payday and signed the contract.
