Gatti-Ward was a street level beating, both guys going for the gusto and having their faces torn to shreds in the process. Martinez-Williams was more of a finesse game (Martinez being the one with finesse) and only one guy looked like he got beatdown by the end of that fight. On a non-biased level, Williams and Martinez are much better at avoiding damage than both Gatti and Ward were. Their styles were up close, brawling types, Paul is kind of like that but he moves his head a lot, Martinez is a pure boxer/counter puncher.

It may be more on a Barrera/Morales kind of trilogy(if happens) but with less thrill. Gatti/Ward was a straight up war with much less level of skills.

There was a lot of drama in Gatti-Ward fights. Even in the third fight. Gatti broke his hand and still went to war.

I mean remember Gatti having Ward on ***** street and Ward was still telling him to come on? That kind of legendary drama doesnt happen everyday.

Naw bro Martinez-Williams shouldnt even be compared to Gatti-Ward until the second and third fight (if it happens) are fought. They have big shoes to fill.
I agree with this. Martinez vs Williams was a great fight all around. Gatti and Ward though, watching that live, it was gut wrenching. I thought I was going to take a heart attack I got so tensed up. After the fight it left me with a sense of awe that returns when ever I think back to it.

In terms of raw action, no. Williams and Martinez are better fighters than Gatti and Ward though.

                      Skill level yeah.

But Martinez-Williams should never be compared to Gatti-Ward. They had some of the greatest fights of all time.

Martinez-Williams wasnt even the best fight of last year.
