yes they did. that's how they manufacture "super fights" they kept calling baldomir cinderella man and all this shi-t it was embarrassing to be a boxing fan. i knew he had negative 500 percent chance to beat mayweather. what should have happened is baldomir should have fought margarito while floyd fought judah for whatever reason and then margarito could have fought floyd but the powers that be didn't want that to happen.

if it's the same payday margarito would have generated millions more for floyd in ppv revenue since no one knew who baldomir was. people don't buy ppvs for lineal titles. proof of this is floyd vs gatti and floyd vs judah did more than floyd vs baldomir. marketing a popular mexican fighter vs floyd would have generated much more than 325k ppv buys. look how much that joke fight against marquez did.

yes and margarito is a much bigger aggressive fighter who throws punches from all angles. if mayweather barely beat castillo this looks like hell for him. baldomir is a conventional fighter who is easily beatable with floyd's style. margarito is not. no drama equals no interest.

those fights weren't needed because floyd was able to generate easy money off of ignorant fans who will buy anything but they were needed if he wanted to cement his legacy as a great fighter. he got the money but not the legacy or respect.

cept judah of course who you think was still a top welterweight after losing to baldomir.
margarito wasn't known in america at the time, either. he would have had to be built up as a certified threat to mayweather before the fight. floyd was guaranteed the 8 million he was being offered for margarito and the accolades to go with it by fighting baldomir. "flash in the pan" or whatever, he was in the right places at the right times to do what he did and win what he won.

margarito needs an opponent willing to stand in front of him to utilize his offense, similar to castillo. when it comes to castillo, you can throw out the first fight. the formula to fight the mexican fighters that thrive on guts, glory and "subtle" skills is simple. the "drama" that you're talking about would have lasted just as long as whatever drama baldomir presented.

it comes down to it being a fight that you wanted to see so its "ducking." i don't know the details of him buying out his contract from top rank or this j. prince business he went through but i have no doubt floyd would have made that margarito fight a stinker. straight rights, lead left hooks and lots of dancing. if i want that i watch castillo II, late rounds of the baldomir fight, sosa, hernandez, vargas, or the rios fight.

aside from boxing being his job, so money is really all that matters in the end, legacy and respect from who?

when announcers ring off accomplishments, does who or how he won those belts come up? does who he didn't fight come up? or do they sound off belts and weight divisions? legacy is based on what you've done. period. if you didn't do it, right or wrong, it's not part of your legacy.

respect from who? you? some other internet dude? people in his profession seem to show a crapload of respect to him, despite whatever problems you have with what he's done. even you and that next internet dude have to respect his ability, at the very least.

and losing, even badly it seems, does not drop you from being one of the top fighters in a division. that fact is constantly on display in all of manny's recent fights.
