Some Stuff you may not know about Al Haymon

Most of you prob know Arum is not Al Haymon's biggest fan. When negotiations were conducted for Mayweather vs Pac, Arum and Haymon had proxies in Todd Duboef and Richard Schaefer do their talking because they pretty much can't be in the same room together. Arum doesn't like Haymon, because Al is the one who stymied TR's relationship with Mayweather. He convinced Floyd to buy out.

Haymon is very friendly with Time Warner chairman of the board and CEO **** Parsons. Why is this significant? Time Warner owns HBO! Haymon is also very close to Kery Davis (whom you might have heard Floyd thank occassionally) --------->she is the senior VP of programming @ HBO sports.

So you can see why Al is a pretty powerful guy in boxing. The most interesting thing about Al though is that he operates without a license. This means he operates above regulatory controls (i.e. the federal guidlines) to which promoters and mangers follow. Now you are prob starting to understand why Al is such a recluse and so media shy. This is a guy who didn't accept or even acknowledge the BWAA when they voted him "manager of the year" in 2006----> probably because in order to be a manager you need a license. By accepting he would just be acknowledging he is a "manger" operating outside of the rules. Hence he isn't a manger or promoter.....simply a "friend" or "advisor"

Haymon is the man who secures HBO dates + license fees (the money). In fact he gets excessive license fees. This makes sense given the close relationships that i mentioned above. The independents (especially Gary Shaw) basically serve at Al's pleasure with regard to the fighters they share. It's rumoured Al got a HUGE $3.2 million dollar license fee for Tarver vs Dawson II (the first one didn't exactly do big business). Dawson is promoted by Shaw.

Hope this info helps out as i see alot of people asking what HAymon actually does and how he does it.

Ironic for a man that powerful when he can't even tell Ross Greenburg to shut the **** up with the negotiations for Floyd not to look bad.

And it ain't powerful if you can't pit Floyd with Pwill, or your own fighters against each other for that matter.

    Just sayin...

That's the point......his and GBP cosy relationship with HBO is sometimes not in the best interests of the sport.

Maybe...just maybe...you have no idea what you're talking about, dear friend. And I don't mean that disrespectfully.

Maybe these negotiations consisted of two messages that occurred in the first two weeks following Mayweather-Mosley and died after that. Not everything is how it appears.

BTW, Al Haymon is no worse than any other guy out in boxing. He just chooses not to lie to you in public. Or to deal with the backstabbing media. He's well respected in political circles, is a Harvard grad and it took him nearly 15 years to earn a place of prominence in boxing. No need to elaborate further but the bad rap he gets is tiring. But yes, he is one of the most powerful men in the sport.

The thing i like about him is this.....sometimes the things he does aren't in the overall best interests of the sport, and sometimes they are......BUT everything he does is almost always in the best interest of the fighter he is representing.......he def looks after his fighters.

They pay him quite a hefty fee for it though but he does get them HBO dates and he is willing to give up and coming fighters a chance (Williams, Arreola, etc). The only thing he asks of the younger fighters is that they're undefeated before he tries to put him on. And yes, he does do some good things - who else was behind Andre Berto going to Haiti to help? Or Floyd Mayweather's philanthropy?
