A point should be deducted only when they clinch facing the ropes and they grab onto the ropes to gain a bit more time. those cases where the Ref has to tug on his arm. A boxer should break the clinch at the ref's command.
Why doesnt boxing deduct pts from fighters who clinch?

They do deduct points if it's done in excess, just like shoving your opponent.
Both are used as defensive tactics, but only when they significantly halt the action is when they get deducted.Comment

I think only if the opponent protests will the ref do anything.
But i wonder if in any other martial art clinching is a used tecnique or is it exclusive to boxing, even though it is nearly grappling isnt it?Comment

you have to have a ref like carlos padilla...the ref during the thrilla in manila. he slapped down ali's hands everytime he tried to clinch frazier.Comment

Without hugging and slapping, would we even talk about the UK on Boxing Scene?Last edited by Sweet Jesus; 09-28-2010, 05:44 PM.Comment
