Because when used in moderation its an excellent tactic that can help a fighter out.

    i.e.: Cotto vs. Margarito

If he knew how to clinch he wouldve won.

It has happen check out Berto-Collazo. Or was that only only a warning?

Anyways, it made the fight more entertaining.

But, I agree points should be deducted for it.

well i think in moderation it should be allowed but guys who just keep on clinching and ruining the fight should get deducted according to the refs judging.

i think that would be fair

Yeah an excellent tactic...like if there was no shot clock in basketball and your team was up on points running around with & passing the ball for the rest of the game would be an excellent tactic wouldnt it?

Excessive holding is a ***** tactic & should be deducted for...I dont mind a fighter using it when hurt to stay in the fight but other than that its unacceptable.

Properly done it is a killer. Watch Mosley/Margarito and Holyfield/Tyson.

Clinching should be always punished or not at all, i don't like inconsistency where one ref allows it but another doesn't, it causes problems.

because combat sports are supposed to emulate real life fighting.

And you can hold in real life fighting as both an offensive and defensive tactic- like in boxing. Doing so effectively and without getting points deducted is a skill, and a part of the game.

The same way wrestling and grappling is a part of mma, and it's not just 100% striking- which would be the most exciting.

if you took out effective clinching from the game, then andre ward, andre dirrell, bernand hopkins and 85% of all heavyweights would be out of whack, and only the strongest biggest and most physical fighters would be on top- not the smartest.
