    Hagler or Benn??

This may sound like a foolish question, but who was the better fighter. Let's not solely judge off the people they've faced, because we all know Hagler's competition blow his out of the water. I got the idea for making this thread from the difference of opinions JUYJUY and JabsRstiff had in the fantasyfight section and I wanted more people's opinion, especially since not everyone goe to the fantasyfight section.

Anywho, who was the better fighter, who executed their gameplan better, who was tougher, etc.

If you think Benn, who did Benn beat that Hagler couldn't beat?

nige benn is my favrourite all time fighter BUT we arent comparing like for like here.

We have a great champ and an ALL TIEM GREAT CHAMP in Hagler.

Hagler has a better chin defence and hit just as hard as Nige, but the defensive factors would in the end work to Marvelous' advantage and id predict a 8th round KO for Marvin.

But benn would have his moments specifically early on.

Benn would have had nightmares with Lenoard far too slick, for me the most interesting math up would have been with Tommy hearns, two vulnerable ****ers, that would have been a war and i couldnt predict who would win due to the styles..........hmmn whoever landed big enough early enough I reckon.

Nigel was a great champ but not an all time great so hagler for me.

Hagler of around 77/78 was the best 160lb fighter ever with his counter-punching.

The washed-up old slugger that edged out a washed-up old little guy Duran and a blown-up chinny Hearns (and a one-paced, one-dimensional Mugabi) was not Hagler at his best and is over-rated.

Benn blasted out Iran Barkley and Gerald McClellan which is very impressive, and Benn was more awesome than Minter and Sibson put together.

But I believe Benn's brittleness and lack of concentration may let him down against the washed-up all-out attacker, although Benn at his sharpest is in my opinion a better figher than the older Hagler. But the younger Hagler is better than anybody (at 160).

The discussion in the fantasyfight section was about could Hagler beat the G-man and JUYJUY said he didn't think so and JabsRstiff said if Benn - a fighter no where near Hagler's talent level can do it - Hagler definately could. opinions..

Benn in the years 1987-1991 and 1995-1996 yes I agree. But when Benn was working with Jimmy Tibbs in 1992, 1993 and 1994 he had an awesome defence, his upper body was moving from side to side constantly and he was comfortable with it and very awkward to hit cleanly. His defence with Tibbs in his corner was a little better than the old Hagler's.

in fairness to the two posters you are quoting, you need to be specific if we are talking about prime years.

great fight as it was both Hagler and Leonard had seen better days by the time they fought.

Virtually no one touches hagler at middle in his prime.
