Everything Hatton fans have said has been correct to date, they said he'd go all the way top the top at 140 and he has. If Mayweather beats his ass its fair to say Hatton fans expected too much of him, but until then Hatton's not overated by his fans.

good post, I actually think it would be a great fight V Mayweather, nobody gave him a shot (particually stateside) against Zoo, I always believed he could beat him and for the same reasons I give him a shout against Mayweather.... work rate and swarming pressure.

I don't feel the Brits over rate him.... its more like craving a little appreciation of his efforts outside of the UK. He has been labelled with a number of tags... overated, protected, ducker, fat bastard etc etc etc. I think his achievements stand up for themselves really.

I think people resent the fact that he does not pander to the US audiance by rushing over to fight in large showcases in LV or NYC, although I believe in the future he will. I don't often praise Warren but in many respects you look at the product now and you have to say hes been brought along well.

Like I say its not a case of overating more an appreciation.

Its easy to say he's fought bums and he need to fight in the US before he good, but its obviously not true.

When nobody would fight Winky it was "poor Winky, everyone ducks him", When nodbody would fight Hatton it was "He's a ***** fighting bums". Just goes to show how much your nationallity counts in boxing.

I'd like to see Hatton fight again in the US but when we are talking about Mayweather vs Hatton, were talking about a mega payday for both fighter in the UK. Thats a fight that could go down in history in front of 80,000 fans, or it could be just another good match up in front of 10,000 fans.

I don't wanna sound like an arse, but I genuinely think that the reason 90% of Americans dislike Ricky Hatton is for this reason:

Jealousy... ------->>>>> But keep reading before you label me "A ****" .... I think that Americans see Ricky Hatton, and the atmosphere he creates at his fights... 25,000 SCREAMING, SINGING, Football stadium, Hatton fans all packed into a tight arena... and it blows the roof off!

They see the excitement generated and would like to have a fighter of their own that could create such a following... And what's more frustrating to them is that when Ricky Hatton is interviewed he always comes across as extremely respectful and genuine nice bloke.

I don't think Americans are jealous of Ricky Hatton or what he's achieved, I think they jealous of what he brings to the sport.

If they rate him any higher than one of the best at 140 than yes. Maybe this victory over Kostya builds his confidence. But Floyd is another type of fighter. Everyone was talking Jones/Dela Hoya/Hopkins etc....No
Mayweather will make the ALL-TIME GREATS list. If Ricky beats PBF then Hatton mos definately goes top 3 p4p.

this hatton kid is great. of course some british people may put him a little too high...but hey...in the philippines they were regarding manny as a god (before morales took him to school). it's all about being proud in your countrymen which is not a bad thing.

all things aside, hatton is a strong fighter. great skills and underrated as far as defense and ring smarts (the kid does a lot of things in the ring that would make nard' grin).

              very good post.

I'm an American, who's actually a Hatton fan, and has been since the ShoBox days.

It's hard to answer this thread because I don't know what "The British" rating of Hatton is. If it's "one of the best handful of fighters in the world", at this point in time, August 2005, it's not inaccurate...

Sorry Bud, I don't understand the question... "Does the British.."
Another relevant question would be: "Is our children learning?"

Hatton is good and I've always enjoyed his fights but he wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell against Mayweather.

I Have To Agree That People Do Over Rate Hatton Especially The Brittish But He Is One Of The Best In The World Today, Who He Has Fought He Has Proven He's Good But His Problem Is He Doesnt Have Many Big Fights Under His Belt. I Dont Know If He's Afraid Of The United States Or Just Cant Be Allowed Over The Border But He Is A Good Fighter One Of The Best In The Division But He Needs To Prove It To Us Alittle More.

The difference between Winky & Hatton is the fact that when Winky was being avoided he fought the likes of Julio Cesar Vazquez, Harry Simon, & Fernando Vargas overseas or in that opponents backyard. Winky wasn't asking people to fight him in St. Petersburg, FL in his hometown like Hatton doesn in the UK. Winky would fight you in your backyard unlike Hatton because he felt he was the best & he wanted to prove it. 1 name on Hatton's resume doesn't make him the best Jr Welter or P4P.
