I dont think the British overrate Hatton, its not in our nature.Us Brits are far too pessimistic to overrate anyone. When he gets beat we'll just say he did well, but we knew he wasn't really all that good. Its just our way.
As a side note, for all the talk about Hattons devastating body punch,it just isn't having the same effect on the guys at the top.Even though Hatton beat Tszyu I think that was more down to workrate(against a 35 year old) than power.I just dont think has the power to trouble the top names. like

I'm an American, who's actually a Hatton fan, and has been since the ShoBox days.

It's hard to answer this thread because I don't know what "The British" rating of Hatton is. If it's "one of the best handful of fighters in the world", at this point in time, August 2005, it's not inaccurate...
The British fans(me included) have been saying Hatton's the real deal for many years, until now he's proven us right. No one's saying he's unbeatable or anything, just that he's one of the best fighters around and that its going to take a lot for someone to beat him. The same way it will take a certain type of fighter to beat Mayweather or Morales(not that i'm comparing Hatton with those guys yet).

the probelm the british have is that they make hatton out to be like a god.

ok let me give you a little bit of history, (and this is meant in a friendly manner mate). The hatton fans and i include myself in this, come into two catagories, those who have stuck with him, despote the criticisms of him being protetcted andf Witter having a pop and those who were doing the criticising. And the witter fans who hate him.

Bear in mind these levels of criticism were getting to childish levels and from Brits , ricy fatton blah blah blah....that he would never fight anyone of a decent standard and was just fighting past it stiffs.

The hatton fans took this for 18 months from BRITS

now he has proven them wrong the over exhuberance has come formt he guys who have stuck by him due to the abuse thats been flowing for months prior. I kno several memeber of this site who were there, even form london 200miles away and thats some loyalty.
we are enjoying a fantastic petrformance and finally a world class boxer for the first time since Lennox /Naz.

so if we overate him, im sorry, but we have suffered the bad times, so why not enjoy the good.

hope this explains that sometimes we are a bit over protective at times....thanks for listening all.

Hmm considering he broke a couple of Tszyu ribs i think his body attack worked pretty well in that fight (even though he used it very sparingly in that fight). On several occasions Tszyu visibly winced after getting whacked to the body. Tszyu did an amazing job to last that long considering the beating he took he had a fractured jaw, cracked cheekbone, busted ribs and other injuries which no one knows about at the moment.

Its quite refreshing to see a newbie come on here and give valid reasoning for their point, most of them just talk ****.
