say what you will about Baldomir being old, but I dont think many other fighters would have turned his lights out and had him plop on the ground face first after one punch.

maybe a weak TKO ref stoppage or corner stoppage, but that was one heck of a shot.

Alvarez's body work is very good for such a young fighter. nasty left hook and even sneaks in right hands pretty well too.

I dont mind it even if he is overhyped. if a guy that is better than him and more deserving of the hype beats him, then that guy will steal a lot of that hype.

I like the hype, Its needed in boxing at the moment because we have too many older fighter who are at the tale end of their careers, We need the Canelos, Khans, Brooks etc to be hyped and come good, No need to push Canelo at the moment because of his age and non-amateur background...

I would like to reserve my opinion on Alvarez til he fights somebody. Doesn't matter how good he looks now, you have to consider the opposition.

Baldomir was a former lineal champ
Luciano Cuello gave Chavez Jr a vey tough fight(Alvarez dominated him)
Jose Cotto has fought for a title twice
Lanardo Tyner recently upset another prospect, Antwone Smith, fairly recently
Jeferson Goncalo has gone the distance with top Middleweights like Khoren Gevor and Hassan N'Jikam, while Alvarez knocked him out
Michael Rosales is rated #33 in the world by boxrec
Euri Gonzalez upset former title challenger Cosme Rivera about a year ago
Raul Pinzon was beating former WBO holder Ricardo Torress and dropped him 3 times before getting KOed in the last round
Miguel Vasquez is the current IBF Lightweight champion

Im not saying Alvarez's record is amazing, but its much better than people make it out to be with wins like the above. especially considering hes just turned 20

Maybe one bad thing about the hype is that it started too early... not sure if pessimistic hardcore fans have the patience to wait a couple years as Canelo develops more. Some will grow to hate the kid because they feel he's undeserving of the attention because of the level of his competition he's faced, although like blackirish pointed out, Canelo is actually progressing nicely for such a young age.
