    Jones & Hopkins.

Toney could not articulate how to tie your Boxing boots.

Lewis was never a particularly smart fighter himself imo.

Holyfield would probably give you no instructions and keep sending you out there telling you god loves you.

Maybe Bernard, but probably none of them.

The best trainers/former boxers are the guys who were mediocre and maybe had some success but were never great.

Basically, the dude who worked his ass off to hang with the big boys at the highest level, but had to make up for their lack of talent/physical gifts at some level with their brains and hard work... so they were true students of game.

Someone like Paulie Malinaggi might fall into this category.

Guys like Roy would never be a great trainer because everything came so easy for them. They would say, "why can't you do this?" when 95% of dudes out there just aren't like them at all.

That's generally true. I mean the only good trainer who was a good boxer that I can think of was Roger Mayweather.

Has to be Toney. The middleweight got fat and fought heavyweights with pure skill. (and juice) He's the second Mamba incarnated. I would hire HOP so they can learn all the dirty tricks of the game as part of building their defense.

But his personality and terrible speech would not make him a great trainer.

How about Eddie Mustafa Muhammad? Buddy McGirt?
