The only reason why people are saying that boxing is a dying sport is because there are no cool or entertaining boxers right now...Unlike the 60s and 70s...there was Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, and alot others that you kept track of. Right now there is like nobody Im really that interested in. Thats all boxing needs...entertaining boxers, thats all.

In 20 years - 1oo years. Boxing will be less rounds. I live in the D.C. area and the boxing commision here constantly argues on what the lenghty of the rounds should be. The guy who is the current commissioner of the D.C. boxing commission a guy named Mr. Arnold Mknight is a neighbor of mine and he constantly get me free tickets and lets me sit in on meetings. (He has offered me membership and I would be the youngin on the board. Anyway there is this woman who is a lawyer and every meeting she brings up the fact that she feels the sport is too brutal and that the rounds should be changed from 12 to 10 for championship bouts and 8 rounds for non-title fights. Someone like this could completely **** things up. Get enough people like her in enough states and bamm. If one of the boxing mecca's like nevada or new york or new jersey changes stature the rest are sure to follow. Not only that but she is an advocate for mandatory headgear in all boxing matches. Soon one of her friends is also going to become a member of the council. You get someone like this on the board who never has even been in a fight in their lives and does not understand the game (Hopefully she will never become commissioner) and they can completely ruin things with one fell swoop should it ever come to a point where their vote is the tiebreaker. Just my two cents anyway.

I could very well see boxing being changed dramatically in the next few years.

If you roll the clock back to the 1800's, they were going unlimited rounds with bare knuckles and killing each other. Gloves and round limitations are next.

Fifteen rounds was the standard for years and years and now it's twelve.

The next thing I think that will happen will be boxing commissions highly scrutinizing "spent" fighters and barring them from fighting.

The sad thing about this sport is that you get hit very hard in the head, which unfortunately houses your brain.

In the modern age, we see these older fighters speaking at age 40 and it sounds like they've got marbles in their mouth. You can watch older footage of them at a younger age and they were so articulate and sharp mentally.

We all know who these guys are. Muhammad Ali's speech was badly slurred early in his career. When he fought Larry Holmes, the man was certainly diminished in mental capacity. These kinds of things cannot continue to happen.

Evander Holyfield has to be protected from his own lack of judgement. He's getting drubbed by club fighters and he has delusions of winning the title? Sure he can still beat an average guy, but what does that say about what he was vs. what he now is?

Joe Mesi has a subderal hematoma and yet he thinks he should get back in the ring??------not!!!!

I think that a more unified national commission is what we are likely to see in the future and I think we'll see alot more unfit fighters banned from fighting.

I love, and have always loved the sport of boxing, but as athletes become more and more powerful and strong, more precautions must be taken to protect their welfare.

How wonderful would it be to have Muhammad Ali able to broadcast with that old quick wit and Ali flare we so loved? If someone had stepped in at the first signs of his mind slipping, he could have been saved a lifetime of self-improsonment.

If he would have stopped fighting before Ernie Shavers and Leon Spinks, what would he be like today?

I think these are the real future issues of boxing. I think more unity for the fighters in terms of retirement packages and health care are something that should be thought of. This could stop washed up fighters from being beaten to death.

These guys pay a high price to entertain us, yet they have nothing compared to something like the NFL, etc. They deserve it.

I think it's criminal that some of our nation's great sports heros like Joe Louis were so neglected after their career ended.

I agree with some of the stuff you said. Mesi has been MEDICALLY CLEARED to fight again so why should anyone stop him, it's his body and life. I don't want to see these guys die either and i always fear that in one match they could end up ded but NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE has the right to thier bodies or mind. If they physically cannot continue and show risks of eventually perminantly hurting themselves or even dieing then yeah step in and stop them from being in the ring like Hollyfield. But look at BHop, he's what 39, 40, or 41 years old and he looks in awsome shape and it shows in the ring. He fought a 20 something year old fighter and to me showed no signs that age is catching up with him, so IMO imposing a age limit is wrong if you look in as good a shape as BHop and can still perform as good as BHop, but not every fighter is BHop. So basically what im trying to say is that these guys choose this profession and have the right to choose this profession and NO ONE can or should change that. Anyone watch UFC or mix martial arts, wheres the discussio on those sports with their mittin gloves that they wear just to protect their knuckles. To me it seems that it's a bigger deal when it comes to boxing. Just MO.

Oh yeah, Ali can easily be cured of what he has but you know why he won't, b/c his religion does not allow him to use medical treatment, it's against their religion or something like that.

boxing to me has gone down... they're will never be another ali/frazier type fights... it just dosent have the tension, and anticipation that it used to have, and plus ppl cant be a real man and work hard, so they use steroids

I think Boxing will be mo high tech. I dunno mo technology and shyt . That being said, I think judges will be eliminated and will be replaced by computers, MO ACCURATE! Gloves will get mo bigga, even bigga than SOCK EM BOPPERS piece of shyt gloves Winky Wright is using (Grant)!
