The kid is 20 years old & has 35 fights or possibly even more(including his last fight with Baldomir, Canelo claims he has 45 fights & 34 KO's)against pure TOMATO CANS & the ONLY 2 names that stick out are of 1 fighter that's way smaller in size & reach & comes from 3 category's lower(Jose Cotto & Alvarez almost got KO'd in this fight that was prematurely stopped to favor El Canelo) & the other 1 is an old & dehydrated no defense, feather fisted Baldomir that was coming from a 1 year lay off & had lost 3 of his last 5 fights & the KO was no big deal since a way YOUNGER Baldomir had already been KO'd in 2 rounds against Paulo Alejandro Sanchez...So if they bring him up any slower he'll be going backwards & with the caliber of his opponents that's the way he's heading!!! Benitez at 17 & on his 25th fight was already a champion, at 18 he won his 2nd world title & at 21 he won his 3rd, Pipino Cuevas became a champion at 18 & his record at the time was 16-5 & Trinidad & Tyson became champions at the same age Alvarez is right now & Trinidad had only 19 fights & Tyson 27..& the fact that El Canelo didn't have or didn't have much of a amateur career is not an excuse cause Wilfredo Vazquez jr never had an amateur fight & started boxing in his 20's & with ONLY 20 fights He's already a champion & has defended his title against the #1 contender!!! If Canelo keeps it going the way he is, he's gonna end up like Yori Boy Campas that had a record of 56-0 with 53KO's(against nobody's)when he 1st fought for a title against Trinidad & got destroyed in 4 rounds!!!You have to understand he's 20 years old and they are going to move him slowly. It would be ****** to put him in with a "dangerous fighter" at this point.
You need to put yourself in the promoters shoes. What would you do if you want him to be a FUTURE star? Not every fight should be a big challenge. Baldimor was a step up in class and a test for the young kid, he won easy. Now for the next year or so, he's going to continue to have "stay busy fights" mixed with a few more challenges here and there.
No reason to rush the kid, Hatton is a fine opponent, imo.Last edited by Tomasio; 09-21-2010, 03:48 PM.Comment

For only a few months away, Matt Hatton the Euro champ isn't a terrible choice. It's a decent opponent for Saul to end the year on. He's only young and keeping active will only benefit him.
Some people mistake that a fighter taking on an opponent is in substitute for him fighting another. When a lot of the time it's in substitute for not fighting at all. I'd like to see Alvarez fight Matt Hatton than fight no one. It's only 3 months off, other fighters might be booked up. Alvarez is 20 and fighting the Euro champ in a keep busy fight is pretty impressive.
Bring on Matt Hatton v The Ginger Ninja.Last edited by Grimmer; 09-21-2010, 02:32 PM.Comment

Fighting a European champion would be a nice step for Canelo at this point. There's nothing wrong with that.Comment
