Mike Jones would be a better opponent and a true welter.

While Alvarez is entertaining, calling for him to fight a top name is suicide. His lateral movement is terrible, a very very slow version of baldamir was able to get in and touch him. Matt Hatton is a perfect opponent, if Canelo getting drubbed is what you want, put him in with Berto or Mosley or Cotto or anyone with any kind of skill or speed

Kid just knocked out Baldy with one shot. He needs to step it up now. It doesn't have to be a really tough fight, but tougher than Hatton for sure.

this is smart... u gotta bring him up slow. GBP knows Canelo can POSSIBLY be the next BIG thing in boxing for the next 10 years...last thing u want is for this kid to be done in 5.... its all about money people. we all know that. so i see Canelo maturing in some more fights while the opposition continues to get better...then a title fight in the end of 2011.

Sounds fun and the Hatton name would bring more attention to the fight. Why not?

You have to understand he's 20 years old and they are going to move him slowly. It would be ****** to put him in with a "dangerous fighter" at this point.

You need to put yourself in the promoters shoes. What would you do if you want him to be a FUTURE star? Not every fight should be a big challenge. Baldimor was a step up in class and a test for the young kid, he won easy. Now for the next year or so, he's going to continue to have "stay busy fights" mixed with a few more challenges here and there.

No reason to rush the kid, Hatton is a fine opponent, imo.
