The Rematch: DiBella's Last Laugh or Hopkins' Redemption

Since Jermain Taylor's controversial decision over Bernard Hopkins to capture the undisputed middleweight title a little more than two weeks ago, speculation over the decision and who really won the fight has exploded. Talk of a rematch has been followed by Hopkins appealing the decision and losing the appeal. Since the appeal, a rematch has been set for December 3rd of this year.

Hopkins-Taylor I went the exact way the boxing establishment needed it to, with the help of veteran judge Duane Ford. Forget the bogus poll on television the other night that showed 41.1% who voted thought Taylor won and 34.2% saw Hopkins as the winner. Interesting, I can't say I checked every poll that was published on the fight. However, everyone I saw favored and saw Hopkins as the winner. Not a majority of them, everyone one of them. How many do you know who had Taylor winning.

Frank Lotierzo, If you think that Hopkins was robbed, then you need to check your eyes. It's people like you in the media that is trying to brainwash some idiot fans. You blame Duane Ford, how about that dirty judge Jerry Roth which scored the fight 116-112 for Hopkins. Taylor clearly won 7 rounds, Hopkins won the last 3 rounds & those are the only rounds he won. 2 rounds was even. You probably lost some money on your boy Hopkins, that is why you are pissed about the decision. I'm surprise you're getting paid for your 2 meaningless cents. A crappy article that is one sided.

Great article, I am just disappointed that more people dont see the fight like you and I saw it. I cant wait to see Hopkins make Taylor look even worse in their second fight than he did in the first. Once again great article!

Who would you rather have representing you against an unknown middleweight if your life depended on the outcome, Hopkins or Taylor? I know which line I'd be in, that long one starting with Hopkins.
Frank hits another methaphorical homerun, while chewing reality bubblegum.

Most boxing writers saw rounds 1 thru 9 as either close or very close. The only rounds that were "clearly" won were 10 thru 12, for Hopkins.

Yes he did! It doesn't surprise me that you will agree with this biased article. I've already called you blind, so I don't need to repeat myself over & over. I know all the Hopkins nut-huggers will become Frank Lotierzo nut-huggers. Why isn't Frank Lotierzo is not putting Hopkins down for all the dirty fouls in the fight, why isn't Frank Lotierzo didn't mention Jerry Roth. This guy is a biased writer, he sees the fight the he wants to see it.

Not true. Hopkins was almost knocked down in the second round, he was lucky that the ropes held him. Round 12 I give to Hopkins, but it still was a close round. Taylor will knockout Hopkins in the rematch, then all of you Hopkins fans can shut the hell up about the first fight. I can't believe how Hopkins is working his magic with all the nut-huggers. Hopkins should stop bitching, many people are getting sick of his big mouth, do better in the rematch & then talk. It's funny he calls himself the peoples champ, most people don't appreciate a boxer that holds & hits, fights dirty & runs like a bunny for 9 rounds, only attacks when the fighter runs out of gas because of losing blood.

This really is not a matter for the Debate Club. It a FACT that most mainstream boxing writers saw a close or very close fight. Saying this is "not true" doesn't make you right, it means you have an opinion that varies from the mainstream boxing scene. It's also not personal, really.

Please take a look at the 2nd Round again. Taylor didn't touch the old man with a single shot, not even an arm punch. Hops made it look ugly, but he was only off-balance and literally falling backward. Not an excuse, just another simple FACT.

Also, I support the view of the mainstream boxing scene (this doesn't include HBO, obviously) that Taylor gave us nothing to indicate a knockout is pending in the rematch. In fact, Taylor will again be given winning odds based solely on the chance of Hopkin's getting old. If Taylor had shown some true greatness in the first fight, the odds would be based largely on his own winning performance in the first fight, not again on Hop's "age".

I like Hopkins, but I'm no nuthugger. The mainstream boxing writers are definitey no Hopkin's nuthuggers either. They've given him **** consistently during his reign. But, in the case of Taylor-Hopkins I, they saw nobody beating anybody clearly. Until that rematch happens, it looks like very few people, including most of the boxing media who follow boxing daily (not just when their hometown boy wins something) will give Taylor much credit for achieving anything. Rightly so for both Hopkins and Taylor, I say.

                    A Question

How come when De La Hoya protests a close decision where he is ahead on all compubox stats he is accused of being a crybaby, but when Hopkins protests a fight where he clearly loses seven rounds everyone is on his side? I'm not supporting De La Hoya's protest, I am just fed up with Hopkins and everyone else refusing to give a very good young fighter any credit for his win.
