Martinez went down on a punch.
Whether he was off balance or not, it's a legitimate KD.

It was a legitimate KD. There are countless instances of an unbalanced fighter going down on a punch that are considered perfectly legitimate KD's, and that was just one more.
I have no problem conceding Martinez scored the nicer (heavier) KD. Regardless, Paul's KD of Martinez was legit.
And, apropos of your discussion with the other poster, there were a cluster of rounds before the Championship stretch where Pavlik was landing leather on Martinez and had it looking as though the fight could swing his way.Comment

Yes pounding. That is what you do with your fists in boxing. Particularly when the other fighter decides to completely abandon their offense for 4 rounds. You think Pavlik was slapping in that fight?Comment

Pavlik was timing him with the jab and was landing an occasional right hand. We must have different definitions of "pounding on". Pavlik got pounded on in that 9th round.Comment
