True, but even without them is still a great tournament. That just shows how deep the bantamweight division is. The best division in boxing.

I like the idea of a consolation fight for the losers of the semis.

It can put the career of one those 2 guys right on track.

Two greats fights to start it off.

The first Perez-Agbeko fight was all-action, set at an amazing pace. Their rematch should be no different.

I'm not sure how Mares-Darchinyan will go, but it's definitely an interesting match-up and one not to miss.

That's irrelevant, even if true (which it isn't). The quote said:

“I hold these four world championship competitors in the highest regard for taking the fights that the fans want to see; for risking their status as one of the world’s best, to prove they are the sole champion in the division. When you consistently fight and defeat the best, you deserve to be recognized as such.

But they are not fighting the best. So it's complete bullshit.

They still shouldn't try to con the public by pretending this is to decide who is the best in the division, when it is not. And any decent boxing journalism site should be calling them on this.

It's like having a Welterweight tournament that excludes Mayweather. It may be exciting but it would not have anything to do with the best fighting the best.
